| remember when nascar was a bunch of guys with their pick-ups? what happened? Now all it is a tv event wound around families and tv audiences. Nascar should be more loyal to their old fans. What do you think? |

| Re: Bring Back The Old Nascar It was a family event wasn't it?(just less tv emphasis. The older folks can correct me if I'm wrong... but didn't you get taken to old school NASCAR(not Na$car), races when your were kids? Another question(that could possibly lead to a new thread)... didn't your parents explain the difference between clean and dirty language? Not let the TV or radio do that for them?

| Re: Bring Back The Old Nascar Quote:
I remember 15-20 years ago, when fans in some areas of the country were crying about wanting NASCAR closer to where they lived so they could attend the races more easily. I remember that there was also a hue and cry that not all the races were telecasted live. For example, both Martinsville races were shown on tape only. These same fans were unhappy with cable coverage (many didn't have acess to cable or the BUD's (Big, Ugly Dishes) that TBS, TNN and ESPN gave the sport. They wanted major network coverage. I remember that, in 1993 this pimply-faced kid from California, by way of Indiana, was going to change the face of NASCAR and bring to the sport a new breed of younger, more "hip" drivers who could pronounce words in such a way that one didn't think that they had a mouth full of either tobacco or turnip greens. Why should NASCAR be loyal to its old fans when they don't ensure that its drivers will even be loyal to their employer's contract (read: Kurt Busch and Jamie McMurray), or loyal to their employer's handshake (read: Jeff Gordon)? The bottom line is be vwery, vwery careful what you wish for. You may get it. Welcome to the brave new world of the 21st Century version of stock car racing.
