Never say never .... Carl took a step or two backwards last year due in part to the crew chief change. This is a whole new year.

"In my opinion" the driver need not make any promises about whether or not the car is illegal. Actually sticking his own neck out if he does.

I thought people liked that kind of attitude. It is sometimes called confidence or optimism. That's what I see in Carl's case, he's not an arrogant fool. Although If doesn't win the championship, he will look like one.

Methinks that you might brush up on your NASCAR history. The year that Busch, The Elder won the Cup, Flipper (Carl) only ran 13 or 14 races races and didn't make his first start until the last half of the season. I believe that he started first at either Bristol or Michigan.

From your post I take it that Carl Edwards isn't on your Christmas Card List?

I think Carl is alright, and if he thinks he'll win the championship then he should say it, and if he don't think he can then find a new team that can. If you don't have confidence in your self and your team then why even try?
