That is certainly a who's who as you say, and we can take it a step further.

Who knew that Harry Melling fielded the car that Million Dollar Bill had most of his success in? Or that Benny Parsons won the 73 title with L.G. Dewitt? My point is, back in the proverbial day, if you knew how to run a race team, you had success. Now all you need is money and some business man who can run it for you. If you watched races during Ken Squire's prime, you couldn't avoid picking up knowledge of team owners like Melling and Dewitt.
I knew Harry Melling fielded the car that Bill had the most success in. I was at Darlington when Bill won the Million. There was 5 women and a 5 year old boy. Me and a couple of the others slept on the hood of the car in the infield the night before.

i don't think there should be a limit because if you have 15 teams and you can make them all work then that should be a problem

So you're saying Nascar would be great to watch if there were only 3 or 4 owners?

not nessesarrily, if you can get a ton of teams operating at once, then kudos to you you should have a percentage of the field

I think we've seen plenty of examples recently where teams don't necessarily help each other on track. not like "the old days" anyway. that makes me think the number of owners doesn't necessarily matter, only how many teams are really true teammates.

Look at Gordon and Johnson at Martinsville. When it comes down to the last lap it don't matter if it is you team mate or not.

Look at the race, prior to the finish, Gordon and Letarte, set up Johnsons car to help him out, being a teammate isn't always about what happens on the track! Like the old days,....pfff....

Taking that into consideration, NA$CAR's future lies in franchise and to franchise profitably NA$CAR needs a minimum of owners and a maximum of dollars. That spells mega-teams and I guess NA$CAR has decided that four (4) is the magic number.
Thanks Bob, I was wondering who would remember old Karl 'Mercury Marine' Kiekhaeffer. If I remember right, and it's a long time ago, didn't he field something like 6 Chrysler 300's for the beach races at Daytona? Also if I remember right, didn't they start something like 75 cars back then? Oh to have old Bill France back in control of NASCAR, not these pretty boys that talk like well oiled used car salesmen.
