Re: Unfair to Mikey

I don't think the penalties were unfair in anyway. They were harsh, but not unfair. Mike knew damn well why NASCAR took his car, and they allowed him to run the backup. That's pretty much all they could do while the car was impounded. As far as the other cars, they were not impounded because NASCAR knew what was going on with them. In Mickey's case, NASCAR had never seen whatever this substance was before, and the didn't know why it showed up twice. I am a little interested in how they came up with such tough penalties. They didn't comment on what sort of advantage it might have given him, nor did they state what exactly the substance was.

The sad truth is, Evernham likely isn't alone. I'll bet Jack Roush, Rick Hendrick, Richard Childress "cheated" on all their cars too, and probably many more. A while ago, ESPN aired an episode of Outside the Lines on cheating. In that episode, Jimmy Fenig was asked how many teams he thought "cheated" everyweek. His answer may or may not suprise you. Fenig thought for a moment and said "43."

Fenig was lying when he said that. Generally there are more than 43 teams who try to qualify for any given race. So I think 43 would have to be the minimum figure .........

True. Everyweek you have guys in Mikey's situatuion. They need to get in on speed. They need to be fast or they're done. That create's some extra incentive.

Re: Unfair to Mikey

I don't disagree with the fines, he played the game and lost, but I still don't think nascar should have taken the car and have it hung in limbo putting the team in the hole before they were ever fined.

of corsde this could even be a "see we (nascar) arn't play favorites with toyota"

I don't think mikey will be in the 500.unless he buys his way in, nawww that'd never happen.

I think Nascar is being unfair but they are also doing the right thing.

I'm just curious ... how can they be unfair but be doing the right thing ???

Do you have some specifics that make your case ??

Re: Unfair to Mikey

they were unfair in the way they held the car in limbo, but were right in the way of fines and suspensions.

Not knowing exactly what the rules are in regard to this I won't venture a comment on it. I do understand how you feel though. I just don't have much compassion for those who cannot follow the rules.

Re: Unfair to Mikey

They didn't hold his backup. It just took them too long to prep it, During the press conference last night, Robin Pemberton stated they were never prohibited from practicing yesterday, they just wanted the other backup, and it took all that time to prep and inspect.

They knew the day before they weren't getting that car back, it ended up being no different than wrecking, and having to pull out a backup.

Thanks for the update. It's always good to know what is going on even if it is late info. Late info is better than no info.

Re: Unfair to Mikey

What I don't understand, is when someone shows up at the track with an intentionally illegal car, why are they allowed to race at all? Last year was a prime example with the 48, who goes on to win. I'm not saying the drilled out bolts in the Evernham cars should go home, but something as blatant as tampering with the fuel system is a no-brainer. Put the car back in the hauler and go home. Sure the points penalty hurts, but the $$ doesn't. Hit them really hard............no sponsor exposure. But no, they let Mikey get into a teammates car, change the decals and make the show. Something's wrong with this system.
