“Phil Parsons, brother of the late great Benny Parsons, will be the Honorary Starter for the Daytona 500 on Sunday and wave the green flag.(2-13-2007)
Phil Parsons, younger brother of 1975 Daytona 500 champion and 1973 NASCAR champion Benny Parsons, has been named Honorary Starter for the 49th annual Daytona 500 on Sunday, Feb. 18 at Daytona International Speedway. Benny Parsons, who was diagnosed with lung cancer, passed away last month in Charlotte, N.C. after complications from treatment. "Benny Parsons was a special member of the Daytona International Speedway family and we're honored to have his brother wave the green flag for Sunday's Daytona 500," Daytona International Speedway President Robin Braig said.”

Since Phil works for the Speed Channel I look for FOX to give Phil an interview shortly after to speak of BP.

Daytona should paint something on the infield

Sprint/Nextel ran a full page memorial in the Charlotte Observer the day following his passing. It had two pics of BP on an otherwise black page. One holding the trophy in victory lane at Daytona and the other in his broadcast jacket. The caption in the middle of the memorial had one sentence. "He was more than the man behind the wheel, he was the voice of the sport."
That sums it up pretty well I think. That would be my thought exactly regarding tribute in the infield.

Does NASCAR do anything like other sports. Baseball will wear a patch to remember somebody. Could they have everybody put a small tribute to him on their car?

they could. but i have never known them too.........not even when Earnhardt died

it would be an excellent gesture for each car to have a BP sticker for the season

Not only would it be an excellent gesture ... it is an excellent gesture. If you watched the Bud Shootout they had them on the cars then.
