Teams trying get things past Nascar

Looks like Nascar found some new Chad Knaus wanna bee's today.
Apparantly the 17 team has some holes drilled into their fender wells that were noticed after qualifying. His qualifying time was pulled and Matt will have to drop to the back Thursday as well as Kasey Kayne but I'm not sure what they did wrong.
It sounds like tomorrow there will be fines and maybe suspensions handed down.
The #55 car was also taken after quailfying and may not race Thursday.

i saw this

Quote:
NASCAR impounded the No. 55 NAPA Toyota of driver/owner Michael Waltrip after qualifying. NASCAR officials confiscated the intake manifold off Waltrip's Camry during a pre-qualifying inspection.

NASCAR officials don't know if Waltrip's car is illegal, but they do know Kenseth's and Kahne's cars were in violation of the rules.

ESPN.com - Cars for Kenseth, Kahne fail inspection; penalties loom
this is really about the worst thing Toyota could do........if they want to be accepted cheating isnt the way to do it

No secret I'm against Toyota, but I hate for them to get caught up in the Knausing game right off the bat. Maybe NAPA provided a bad part ???

Way the article reads the manifold hit the gray area. They haven't decided if it is illegal or not. However you are correct, this is not the way for them to start.

Re: Teams trying get things past Nascar

From what I'm reading they think it might have been more of a fuel additive to help performance instead of a manifold problem, that is why they also took the car.

Re: Teams trying get things past Nascar

It was funny to see it unfold live as DW was commenting in the booth. If the 55 is not allowed to race Thursday I assume he would be going home? I did not see the final standings at the end of qualifying but can't see the 55 being in the top three of the Go or go homers.

It's a "scale" thing it would seem. The closer to the "hopeless loser" end of the scale, the less the raggin'.

Ummm --- how about less wrath, but only as it relates to rule bending. Me thinks "no" wrath may be a bit more than some/we/I can really commit to.

He really lost me with last years "buy a ride" thing.
