Junior gets "a pass"?

I imagine this place is like most places in the U.S. and is rife with junior fans. I have my fire suit, so "FLAME ON!" if thats what you're about! Here goes:
Junior causes YET ANOTHER multi-car crash on national television and everyone is impressed by him "manning-up" and taking the blame when the cameras are rolling. Who could he have blamed it on? He doesnt have JJ or Jeffs skill at blaming others. (I'm still expecting one of their crashes to be my fault....)
I was at Michigan last summer when he took Edwards out. End of the race... coming out of a corner. Why does that sound familiar?
Juniors explanation "I was trying to help a friend........." I'd think Sadler'd rather be hated by junior at this point. What an a$$hat this guy is!

Re: Junior gets "a pass"?

Hi Jr. and welcome to GTG. These forums are full of haters and lovers of each and every driver. You are more than welcome to bash & flame whatever DRIVER or TEAM you so desire. We try to take it all in stride and as long as it doesn't get into some bashing contest with other posters we encourage you to go to town on whatever driver you choose.

Since we know who you dislike, who are some of the drivers/teams you do like ??

I see a difference between Jr's Michigan incident and the one last night. I believe he took Edwards out at Michigan. At Daytona he was doin what he always does at the restrictor tracks bumpdrafting. He screwed up and did it in the corner. He admitted it.

First off, we dont "flame" people here (I'm not even sure I know what the hell that means). second, my take on the Junior accident is simple. He was trying to help Sadler by bump drafting. He made a mistake and hit him coming off the corner. It was dumb, he knew it, he appologized. It seems like you view it as Jr using his popularity to his advantage, as if he can get away with whatever he wants if he sounds good on TV. That is far from true. If he makes an honset mistake he appologizes and if he meant it, you won't hear a word of regret. Back in the day (I'm talking 60s, 70s and 80s, bud) there was no appologizing, and there was no complaining. It was something we like to call racin. I'm not real big on Jr either, but I know he is better than what you say he is.

Re: Junior gets "a pass"?

I'm a Jr. fan (along with most of the other drivers) and I was surprised he tried to bump there. Last year Kyle Busch was public enemy number one for soem foolish moves and this one was certainly not a good one.

Hopefully we don't see that kind of drafting from anyone in the 500.

Exactly my point. Thank you. Ever see Stewart do anything like it? Sure you have, but its always looked at as intentional when he's involved.

Oh yeah.... BringBack? Please dont "back in the day" me. I remember all those decades you mentioned. Jr. is the media's darling. And yes, yes I do believe that he uses his popularity to his advantage.
You think he'd be going head to head with Theresa for a controlling interest in daddy's company if he had the fan base of say...... Casey Mears?

Re: Junior gets "a pass"?

so are you saying you are in favore of nascar handing out tickets everytime there is a scuff on another car.

I prefer to have nascar step back and let the guys race a little harder.
I say let the drivers police them selves when it becomes to on track behavior. it would take long of either not being drafted with or a bump every week sending you the the garage before a driver would get the hint.

also don't X amount ofdrivers have to sign off for someone to get thier cup lisense.

There is a reason he does not have the same fan base as Casey Mears. Dale Jr.'s stats are 17 Wins, 69 top 5's, 109 top 10's and a career average finish of 16.1. Mears on the other hand has ZERO wins, 6 top 5's, 26 top 10's and a career average finish of 22.8.

There is no question that much of Jr.'s popularity is media based but he does have driving abilities also. I would also suggest to anyone out there that each and every driver/owner/team uses whatever popularity they have to their own personal advantage. How many commercials have you seen involving Carl Edwards and his back flip, Tony and the wall climbing, Jeff Burton and his phone ads. It is all about media hype today. With the expense involved in running a team today they would be foolish not to dive right in.

Re: Junior gets "a pass"?

I sat in the stands at the June Pocono race last year. It was 50 degrees, winds at a bezillion mph, rainy, you name it. A cute little blonde wearing a Dale Jr. halter top sat quite a few rows down. It was obvious that she was a "I'm here because Jr.'s gonna climb into the stands with a big ol' ring and sweep me off my feet so I can stand beside him during the national anthem and I'll even take off my cute little Jr. hat" type of fan. (It was also obvious that this young lady was very cold, but hey, she was waiting for Dale). You can't blame Jr. because he attracts a huge number of fans, even dumb ones. The fans make Jr. the most popular driver on the planet, and again, I'm not a fan, but I really don't get the impression that he uses his popularity to get away with anything. Tony Stewart, another driver I'm not crazy about although I do love his skills, thinks Jr. is the best thing since, well, Sr.. I wonder what Tony will say when his buddy Jr. bumb drafts HIM into oblivian! My guess is Tony won't give a rat's patooty that Jr. was just trying to help. If I were Jr., I'd hop the next bus out of town before Tony gets out of his car. And before anybody jumps on me for making what could be perceived as sexist remarks, I'm an older than dirt female fan with two grown daughters in male dominated careers, one in law enforcement and one was an EOD tech in the military. The only prejudice I have is against stupidity. Heck, even THEY are Jr. fans! You can't blame Jr. for what we make him. His lack of judgement when bump drafting has got to stop, though. I do think he is the worst offender as far as that's concerned.
