(It was also obvious that this young lady was very cold, but hey, she was waiting for Dale). You can't blame Jr. because he attracts a huge number of fans, even dumb ones. The fans make Jr. the most popular driver on the planet, and again, I'm not a fan, but I really don't get the impression that he uses his popularity to get away with anything. Tony Stewart, another driver I'm not crazy about although I do love his skills, thinks Jr. is the best thing since, well, Sr.. I wonder what Tony will say when his buddy Jr. bumb drafts HIM into oblivian! My guess is Tony won't give a rat's patooty that Jr. was just trying to help. If I were Jr., I'd hop the next bus out of town before Tony gets out of his car. And before anybody jumps on me for making what could be perceived as sexist remarks, I'm an older than dirt female fan with two grown daughters in male dominated careers, one in law enforcement and one was an EOD tech in the military. The only prejudice I have is against stupidity. Heck, even THEY are Jr. fans! You can't blame Jr. for what we make him. His lack of judgement when bump drafting has got to stop, though. I do think he is the worst offender as far as that's concerned.
Now that there is one enjoyable post / fun read. Put smile in me for the day. Thank you. Sincerely. Good stuff.

Re: Junior gets "a pass"?

I have been thinking of this thread for a few minutes and what came to mind was the 'bump' by Vickers at the end of the Talladega race. Now, say what you will about the incident, and Vickers that's another issue.

Did you see Jr. crying foul and going after Vickers? If memory serves he was dissapointed in the finish, but 'that's racing'. I think those involved in the incident Saturday night feel the same way.

Will it happen again? Absolutely. Will it be Jr? Who knows but it will happen and it will simply be 'racing'. I have no idea what its like in the draft, if your car gets sucked up real fast and you either lift or risk a bump. I can't comment any further because I have no experience.

Re: Junior gets "a pass"?

Well here is my 2 cents worth. I don't think Jr. wrecked Elliot on purpose and if that had of been Tony that Jr. bumpdrafed then more than likely no one would have crashed. I think Jr. forgets who can handle the bump and who can't

There aren't many guys who can handle a bump going into or coming out of a turn. A driver is turning the wheel the most during entrance and exit, so obviously any aggrevation is going to be hard to correct.

Re: Junior gets "a pass"?

Did any of you see what Michael Waltrip had to say about it in 'Inside NASCAR'? He said that bumpdrafting was not allowed and was wondering wht he wasn't getting punished for the incident.

From what I recall bumpdrafting was allowed but doing it in the corners was not. Are there still a bunch of yellow squares painted on the track to show the bumpdraft zones?

Re: Junior gets "a pass"?

well this is from last year

Quote:
Daytona Beach, Fla. - In an attempt to curb dangerous bump-drafting, NASCAR will begin posting extra observers in the corners at Daytona International Speedway and could hand out penalties as severe as disqualification, top officials said Tuesday.

The practice - when one car hits another in the rear to give both a boost of speed - is not new but has come under intense scrutiny since the Budweiser Shootout on Sunday night. Afterward, Nextel Cup Series champion Tony Stewart warned that "somebody's going to get killed" between now and the end of the Daytona 500 on Sunday.

If intentional bumping becomes too flagrant, NASCAR will make a subjective call "we don't want to make," Pemberton said. The policy would be similar to the yellow out-of-bounds line NASCAR introduced several years ago when it wanted to keep drivers from going all the way to the grass to make an inside pass.

"(The penalty) might be a pass-through, as far as coming down pit road . . . it could be anything, a stop-and-go," he said. "You get repeat offenders or something, you could park somebody.

JS Online: NASCAR targets bump-drafting

like i said, thats from Feb 2006

Obviously with the recent course of events, one must wonder just how much the Waltrip gang actually knows about NASCAR rules !!!!!
