| Re: Old Farts Well, I guess I'll comment. I love figure 8 racing. When I lived in NH, I would to Stafford Speedway or Oxford Plains for a night of figure 8 racin and then a Busch East or Summer Series race. I wish I could still go up there.

| Re: Old Farts When I was a kid in the 50s/60s, we would go to Ascot Park in Gardena California and watch the Jalopies racing the figure 8. Anyone remember Ascot? The track was legendary in SoCal. I also went to Colorado Nat'l Speedway in 1993 while visiting some friends. We mainly went to see the Southwest Tour and Winston West races, but they also had these goofy Train Races on the figure 8 for the night. It was insane with 20 "trains" of 3 cars tied together. The front car had the engine and no brakes, the middle car had no driver, and the rear car had brakes but no engine. It was mayhem!

| Re: Old Farts Ahhh yes .. back in the day. My track of choice in the 50's was Waterford Speedway. It was a small dirt track where they raced the old 30's & 40's cars. It's probably returned to a field now or is another housing development. After that it was off to the big times ... THUNDER ROAD !!!!! They still race there today on Thursday nights. It was once, and still may be, owned partly by Ken Squire. Waterford was the real racing though ... ahhh to have those days again.

| Oh Yeah, I remember the figure 8's at Ascot. I used to beg my uncle to take me there on Sunday nights. We'd make sure we got there early enough to get the good seats where the cars would be comming right at you. Made the near misses look so much closer. Always loved it when somone would end up in the duck pond and then be chased out of the pond by the ducks. We need more good family entertainment like that back in So-Cal again! |
