| Fan that is......me Ever since they instituted the rule of no racing to the line, the flag is flown immediatly as soon as the cars start wrecking. Why not tonight? Martin was robbed and handled Nascars blunder with integrity. Been a fan since 1985.. tonight Racing fell to the same status as WWF. all for show and money. Good bye Nascar. |

Whether they use a caution at that point is a judgment call. They decided to let it go and get a clear winner so there is no dispute. If you ask me, it's better for the sport to have a clear undisputed winner than one decided by pictures and judgment. |

| Re: Daytona 500 "Live Chat" I couldn't post, I was to worried. But, I did go through the last 5 pages of posts to see what everybody was saying. I want to add my thoughts on the race. When the wreck occured with 5 laps to go - it should have been red flagged immediately (I think that, whenever a caution comes out) so they would have had at least 4 green laps to finish. Also, I didn't see any KUDOS to Gillilands top 10 finish after going a lap down. I think he did an excellent job for it being his first Daytona 500. I still wanted him to win, and it was an actual possibility for that to have taken place. Anyway, I'm giving MAJOR KUDOS to Gillilands finish. Heres looking to California and a win. Guess you can't figure out who I'm going to pick next week!?!? |

I agree, a big congrats to David, and ANYONE else who survived that wreck-fest. I'm happy Sadler and Kahne posted 6th and 7th place finishes in their Evernham Dodges. Its a good bandaid for losing points earlier in the week. |

| Re: Daytona 500 "Live Chat" NO Sports are played within a set of rules. Without these rules you have Chaos. I have watched racing for 22 years and never have seen the officials delay throwing a caution for a wreck of that magnitude as long as they did tonight. It is ALWAYS flown instantly!. Then the rule is "field is frozen immediately as soon as the caution comes out." If Nascar officials can bend the rules to "make for a better ending then the sport becomes subjective. I remember the sport when it was raw and untampered with. For the sake of money and popularity NASCAR switches and plays with the rules. Tonight was the last straw for me. I could care less about what makes a better finish. I care about being consistant on making calls. |

I think we all have that fine line that once crossed we can never return. Sorry to hear that happened for you tonight. Right call or wrong call will be a topic of discussion for a long time. Opinions will abound with this one. Money ???? Yeah we've been at that point for quite sometime now. I've felt we are at the WWF mentality for a while now but I guess I'll still hang in there. What else is there in my life ???

| Re: Daytona 500 "Live Chat" Yes and know. For better or worse, NASCAR knows their longtime fans will still watch, and they're concerned about growing and adding to the size of their fanbase. Remember, the more fans, the higher the ratings and the more merchandise get's sold. |

But it doesnt help when their long time fans are deciding to stop watching nascar because of the new look and now people are starting to look at things like cart racing. |
