just found this thread .. dunno why it took so long .. blind squirrel and all, I guess...

a few thoughts on Bobby:

Bobby's success rate at Gibbs fell sharply when Joe went footballing...

at Petty, Bobby found like minded folks. And they're tickled to have found an experienced and talented driver that shares their values.

unfortunately, PE hasn't really placed a priority on technology .. and it's hurting them. Maybe that's cause Richard & Lee were so talented "seat of the pants" drivers that they never saw a need.

this last item has also hurt Kyle - not a bad driver, just never seemed to live up to his name .. maybe some good technology would have changed that....

Bobby seems to have turned that around .. but it'll take time. I hope he has all the success he (and they) deserve.

He's not my favorite driver, but is always a sentimental favorite.

Concerning is their performance during testing of COT at Bristol last month. Were in the bottom half (approximate average 33rd) every single session. If they "found" something they sure did not decide to show it. Couple days from now we'll know.

Yup. Tend to believe the "non mega teams" best "COT Shot" could well be on the shorter tracks where aero does not play in as much as it does on other tracks. This "short track first" intro of COT was the right thing to do for the smaller teams.

they ran good at bristol both races.the first race labonte finished 5th and the second race both labonte and petty ran in top ten just about the whole race.i think we can expect a good solid finish out of labonte.

it looks like labonte finished 22nd,and moved up 3 spots in points and only 2 spots out of the chase.and MARTINSVILL is coming up next a track labonte runs well at,looking good labonte keep it up.

I couldn't believe he moved up in points! I still say they need to get a strong finish under their belts. Having said that, to be in 14th with the finishes they have had is great.

If they start getting some top 10's!

We are still very early in the season and we all know that A LOT can happen between now and the cutoff for the Chase. I don't see why Bobby can't be in the top twelve by the time it's all said and done. As long as he has good, constant finishes (no DNF's-I hope!), there's no reason for him to not be a contender for the title.

For the past two weeks, he's had ill-handling cars and has still managed to finish the race with the car intact. Sure, he might not have had top ten finishes BUT he has moved up seven spots in the standings despite this. Not too shabby.

I've seen a lot of complaints from other fans who aren't happy since he left JGR and there's a lot of complaints about the lack of technology, etc., etc. It's not because they don't WANT the technology, it's because the talent pool is situated in and near Charlotte but this should change dramatically in the next year or so. Petty Enterprises is planning on moving their main race shop closer to Charlotte. Right now they are an hour and a half away which makes it kinda hard to hire people. Once they get moved, they will be able to get a really good staff on board and they will have a fan-friendly race shop, too.
