| Re: bobby labonte a contender for this year I think Bobby is getting all anyone could get out of that car. We have seen he can stil win and run up front by the truck and Busch seires performance. The 43 seems to run around 8-20 all the time. It is just going to take some time to get them running up front. It's going to take things falling into place just right for Bobby to win, or even to do much better than he is. I'm hopeful the second half of the season will be better than the first, but it will not happen soon enough for him to make the chase. Running out of gas last week pretty much put the nail in the coffin for this season! Doesn't mean we can still enjoy his season, and have hope for some improvement, but I think that is the way it is. |

| Re: bobby labonte a contender for this year I've followed this thread from its birth... It's a great thought and I relate to it. I'd love to see a Petty car win again. But then I'd love to see BAM Racing, Front Row Racing, Boris Said's team, or Jim Finch/Larry McClure's team win also. But, face it...it just ain't gonna happen. OK, I'll change that. It might happen once every decade or so but I believe (going strictly on memory here) the last time a single car team won was the spring race at Darlington in 2003 (Ricky Craven in Cal Wells' car). The truth, unfortunately, is that today the only cars that win are fielded by Hendrick, Gibbs, Roush, Childress, Ganassi, and possibly Ginn and Everham (I think I left out a mega-team but I just don't have the ambition to try and noodle out which one; they're all basically the same and are interchangeable in today's NASCAR). The Cup owners of today have formed a very elite little group. It's like a high stakes poker game; if you can come up with the minimum ante you can sit in and play but do not; repeat: D-O N-O-T, count on winning. At the end of the game you can count on the winnings going almost exclusively to those who entered the game with the most money. The 1920's newspaperman and writer, Daymon Runyon, once wrote: "The race doesn't always go to the strongest, nor the battle to the strongest. But that's the way to bet." I agree.

| Re: bobby labonte a contender for this year Thanks Blue, But I think some others are forgetting some very important details. 1. Hiring Robby Loomis, former Crew Chief for Championship Driver Jeff Gordon. 2. Both Andrews and Wilburn are very good crew chiefs. 3. Both of the 'Temp' drivers are better than Kyle. 4. Since Adam died Kyle has been working on Victory Junction Gang, and The Kyle Petty Motorcycle Charity Ride. So as I said before PE is not the major focus of Kyle Petty, he has to retire. |

| Re: bobby labonte a contender for this year I think they will get back to winning, but not in time for Bobby to enjoy it. I also think they will find a way to win a race. They have hired some good folks, and hopefully tht COT will truly help to level the playing field. I don't think they will be true contenders for quite a few years. The King is just going to have to find a way to get the sponsors to kick up more $$. The only way to do that is to find a way to win thought hard work, brains, and luck, to show potential sponsors they can get it done. That also means enticing a better driver for the 45. Kyle her the personality, but not the talent to get that done. Neither do any of the drivers who are filling in. But, that brings us back to not being good enough to get a top notch driver to come in. Bobby came there, I think, because of the honor to drive the Kings car, I hope they find a way to put a car and team behind him to make it worth his time to continue to race. I grew up a Petty fan, and am a big Bobby fan, so it would really be special thing for me to see this succeed. I'm not throwing in the towel yet. They have had a couple of bad weeks, but there is a lot of racing left to go. Go Bobby GO! |
