Yea, he did OK. I'd like to have seen him closer to the front but it was respectable. Now when he goes home to Cal. he needs to dominate. 24 all the way.

Yea, I hope he has a good run at Cali. I think he will need to contend with Kesneth and Biffle if he wants to win, which you know he does.

Re: Jeff Gordon Fans Thread

You Jeffie fans must be happy that his finish was upgraded to tenth.

While I malign him for his business ethics, I don't think that it's too deniable that he's one of the five best raw racing talents in NASCAR today. Probably one of the top three.

That being said, the the sucking up being accomplished, I humbly ask for an opinion from you Jeffie fans:

If he wins the Cup this season do you think he'll retire? I heard him in a radio interview a couple of weeks ago. He indicated that he did not see himself driving in another five years and he was looking forward to spending a lot of time at home with wifey-pooh and Tigger, or whatever they choose as their child's name.

Personally, if he wins another Cup, I see him doing a part-time gig, much like David Pearson did with the Wood Brothers, or Bill Elliott is doing now (except I don't see him taking the schlock ride Elliott is taking). I also see him either going into the booth for some network, or/and take an active part in team ownership, and not a defacto-ownership, as he presently has with The Felon.

What say you Gordon fans? I'd be interested in hearing.

A top 10 with a 25th place car. Now that's a championship caliber team right there.

Well I have heard rumors that Jeff will retire once he gets 6 championships. I don't think his time has come to retire just yet, but it is his choice on what he wants to do and I will respect him either way for his decision. I can see him doing part time like Mark Martin is now, and still be a strong contender for wins. I think there is a possibility if he wins the cup this year, he may go on a part time schedule. But the rumors I have heard is Jeff wants to get 6 championships at the most before he retires. But in my opinion, Jeff Gordon has alot of years left in him, and if he wins it this year and retires and goes on a part time schedule, alot of fans will wonder "Could have Jeff Gordon caught up to Earnhardt and Petty for championships if he had raced longer?" Knowing Jeff, I think he will race until his body tells him he can't anymore. But hey, it's Jeff's decision, and when he feels it's time to retire, it's time to retire. Either way, Jeff Gordon will go out as one of the best drivers in NASCAR history to come along since Earnhardt.

I think (really "hope") that Jeff goes out on top, much as Rusty did, and not hang on and hang on, as Richard and DW did. I honestly believe that he has to intelligence and class to do this.

"One of the best drivers in NASCAR history." I agree. I can't think of more than 6 or 7 drivers I'd put above Jeffie on that list.

Jeff will retire within 5 years, but if he wins the title this year, he definately won't retire without coming back to defend that title. I think then he will retire completely from driving but will have a multi car "stable". I also think he will be able to name his price as a commentator and will take somebody up on one of those offers. At that time I will tearfully retire my Jeff Gordon jacket and go shopping. I'm not sure what I'll buy, yet.

It all makes perfect sense to me. The only difference I have with the above is that I think it's possible that he'll take some one-up rides, but it'll have to be in a competitive car, not some field-filler. Jeffie-Pooh's better than that.

Rather than going shopping and spending money on over-priced stuff, why not join those of us who have no favourites and just watch the racing for racing's sake? You'll be pleasantly surprised what it does for your objectivity. I recommend it.

Re: Jeff Gordon Fans Thread

Team Hendricks is my favorite but my blood runs with CHEVYS so I'm always happy to see a Chevy out front. I would just rather it be Gordon, Johnson, and then anyone in a Chevy.

Hi Bob - having grown up around racing and having relatives and friends on many local pit crews, I have indeed learned to appreciate racing for just that - racing. I have my favorites, Gordon being one of them, but when it comes to a good race, the Devil himself could be up front bumpin' and bangin' and I'd be ok with that. (Oh, wait, Harvick was up front! ). As for the Jeff Gordon Jacket? We were freezing our butts off last year at Pocono in June, and his trailer was one of the closest. I do look hot in flames, however.

Yea, that's kind of the way I'm approaching it. Once Jeff retires, I may not have a favorite, I may just watch it for the heck of it. I do like Jimmie Johnson though, he may become my driver once Jeff retires, seeming he is already my #2 favorite driver. I like Montoya as well. So I will have drivers I want to win, but I may not have a "favorite" like Earnhardt Sr and Gordon were.

I agree with you Bob. Look at Michael Jordon for instance. He retired how many times and came back, but he just never really came back as good as he was during the 3 dominating years of Bulls Championship. I think Jeff should go for one more Cup Championship, and then retire from full time racing. He is a legend already and he is poised and has had offers to do many other things. Commentating is one I hadn't thought of for him, but that would be something I would LOVE to see.
Sunday when he hit the wall on the last lap, he came on the radio and said "ouch that hurt" and knowing he was ok all I could do was laugh. He is a funny guy and very well spoken.
Whatever he does will be even more thought out than ever because now he has a family and we know the changes that makes in ones life.]
I do hope he gets a 5th championship! And when he retires I will be done having just one driver. I will do what Bob said and watch just to watch. I sincerely hopes when he does retire he does it and doesn't just say it for three years (mark martin).

You can't blame Mark for that. Jack Roush was the guy who had asked him to come back, and since Mark is very loyal to him, he decided he would.

Too many rumors I have heard..... I hear Jeff will retire once he gets 6 titles, now he may retire after he wins his 5th. All we can do is wait and see. I think Jeff will retire once his body tells him he can't do it anymore. Jeff has a great passion for racing, and he won't leave it just like that. But Jeff will retire when he wants to, and either way he will be known as one of the greatest drivers in NASCAR history.

Re: Jeff Gordon Fans Thread

If qualifying is any indication on how good Jeff's car is, then that is bad for the competition. Jeff's car looked really fast, and has a good enough car to win the race. Him and Martin are the only ones to run in the 38's, so it looks like those 2 are the ones to beat right now.
