Mark Martin is a notoriously clean driver, Dale Earnhardt Sr. was the opposite. Who has the championships?

"I just meant to ruffle his feathers" DE once said after wrecking Terry Labonte on the last lap at Bristol enroute to a win. Terry had the better car, but Dale pushed harder. Earnhardt never let his emotions get the best of him like Tony Stewart does. Martin on the other hand, rarely pushes an issue to get a win in a tight battle. He solely relys on a dominant car.

Those aggressive tactics are going to keep producing wins and championships until Nascar starts putting severe penalties on cars for wrecking people and going on to win. It's not uncommon that a 2nd place car, takes out the leader on the last lap to win a race, especially on short tracks. Nascar NEVER takes a win from someone, no matter what happens. They may take points and money away, but never a win.

Re: Chrysler 400 in Las Vegas

Once again rough driving is a part of racing. Just look at bump drafting....considered rough driving but if you know how to do it then no one gets wrecked. Im not saying that their arent idiots who just wreck their cars over stupid mistakes....but thats not what im talking about when i say rough driving is a part of racing.

They raised the bar on that too........it's now "slam drafting".

What the heck? I cannot believe that the man hit the cone, and wasn't penalized. He HIT it. It's not like it MOVED twords his car. It's the commitment cone. Whether it was a couple of inches out-of-"perfect" position is irrelevant. No one else hit it prior to Tony.

NASCAR's preferrential treatment has got to go. We MUST have consistancy. Something as distinct as hitting/not hitting a cone shouldn't be up to debate.

Also, take a look at the McMurray thing. He and Waltrip both got into the back of other drivers and caused accidents. Waltrip penalized for rough driving, McMurray....nothing.

However, at least the "rough driving" thing is grey area. The commitment cone is black and white (or at lease I THOUGHT it was).

If you want consistancy then Jeff Gordon should have been penalized a couple years ago for hitting Jimmy's pit crew, and some driver last week took off out of the pits before the jack was lowered, lost his front wheel because it wasn't on yet but no penalty. In Daytona Stewart was penalized for running over his jack. Hmm, consistancy you say!

Yeah, consistancy I say. And you gave some other good examples of the inconsistancy which plauges NASCAR. I didn't mean to limit the evidence to the LV race. One could argue that it happends in every race. I don't think you can ever eliminate it. But eliminating "grey areas" (such as providing a commitment cone) should be NASCAR's goal.

Yep, gotta agree that was a ton better than the fontana race. Lots to keep us interested. What did you think of JJ winning?
JJ is a great driver with great equipment so that easily equals a win of the race
