Planned "Race Car of the Future? We are given to understant (and encouraged to favorably anticipate) a generic race car for the CUP series in the very near furutre. As I understand it, all teams are to have the same car desing, same weight, same everything, with a view to 'equalizing' the race venue. Darn, and just as I was beginning to understand that auto races were tstaged to determine the best car, team, driver etc...(am I missing something?). Seem like this effort is just a glorified modification of the IROC rules. Another 3rd generation France attempt to neutralize the racing sport. I often feel his goal is to kill the golden goose that his grandfather brought to bear...is this another 'money' thing? Or; am I too much the sceptic? By-the-way, I amy really enjoying sharing all of your views on this sport...thanks for being 'out there' guys and gals. We here in Oregon are anticipating a new track sometime in the future...look forward to the generic cars of the furutre ??

Re: Planned "Race Car of the Future? They could make the cars bigger and safer without disgracing the stock car heritage. I think it is a tragedy that the cars have no identity anymore, and it is only going to get worse if this COTF takes off. You can barely tell these cars apart from a distance when they are standing still now, never mind at 180mph. It seems like the only difference between the makes are the grille, headlight decals and tail light decals. The new Fusion even has a grille decal, cause they can't have a grille as big as the real thing. The new Dodge Charger is a good looking car, but the Nascar Charger is butt-ugly. They don't look anything alike. What's up with that?

Re: Planned "Race Car of the Future? Thanks for the welcome. I think Nascar needs to go retro. Scrap the cookie-cutter cars, and make the templates close replicas of the street-model bodies. Use the air dams, side skirts and the rear spoiler to tune the aerodynamics a bit, but make them less aero-dependent. I think it would make the racing better. We might even be able to get rid of restrictor plates.

Re: Planned "Race Car of the Future? Hey smallblock, glad you found us!! I agree with the "retro", let's get rid of the restrictors! It's really sad that the cars don't have their identities anymore, but that's "evolution", at least in Nascar's eyes.
