| Re: Chase system changes NASCAR puts limit on past champ provisional Official Release January 31, 2007 03:01 PM EST (20:01 GMT) DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- NASCAR announced Wednesday an update to the past champion's provisional rule in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series for 2007. Beginning this season, a past champion's provisional may be used by an eligible driver a maximum of six times over the course of the season. In addition, a team with a past champion eligible driver may only use this provisional a maximum of six times during a season. Previously, there was no limit on usage of the past champion's provisional over the course of the 36-race season. The provisional gives the eligible driver the 43rd and final starting position in the race field. "As NASCAR seeks to place more emphasis on competition, we have decided the time is right to limit the number of provisionals allowed," said NASCAR vice president of competition Robin Pemberton. "We believe this revision brings the provisional policy in line with the continued growth of the sport." DAMN IT! Someone on a forum must have demanded it and got it.

| Re: Chase system changes Well... It's like this. DJ and I think Bill Elliot are the only past champions driving Yotas if I'm correct(if I'm not I apologize I'm runnin on 3 hrs of sleep) So DJ has a spot for the first 5 races barring and astronomical tragedy. I think in those first 5 races he should be able to set himself up for the top 35. The rest of the Yota drivers are all strong(exception Michael Waltrip) and probably can hang in there to qualify for the races. Unfortunately this puts Kyle Petty in harms way as I believe he is out of the top 35. It will definitely be interesting. |

DJ will try to qualify on speed each race and only use the provisional if he has to....I would imagine using it only when he has to will keep him racing all year You're dead right Q88 its going to be interesting!!! |

| Re: Chase system changes I like Kyle alot... but I think it's time for him to step aside. There is alot of talent out there and I think he could tab a young up and comin driver. If he sets his sights on ownership and not driving, I think Petty Enterprises could make a big rebound. They are already startin to. They had good stuff to build on this past year. MW I think should stick to ownership. I think after a couple of years, that's what he'll be doin. |

| Re: Chase system changes yea it's going to be interesting all right I just wish DJ didn't go to Toyota I liked him just where he was. |
