Kyle and the Future

I just pulled this off of Jayski:
Petty to TNT? to run less races: hearing that Kyle Petty, driver of the #45 Petty Racing Dodge, will be part of the TNT broadcast crew that airs six Nextel Cup races in June and July of 2007 and that Petty would not drive in some or all those six races, being replaced by another driver, no idea who that driver may be. Bill Weber will return as TNT's play-by-play announcer and Wally Dallenbach returns as a race analyst.(1-20-2007)

I believe that, in view of Kyle's age, recent record and off-track endeavors, this is a good and classey thing to do. A part pullout this year and possibly full retirement next?

Hopefully Kyle's articulate delivery and knowledge of racing will off-set Weber's dramatic and quasi-informative approach to announcing.

Re: Kyle and the Future

The fact that he has, for the most part, been no more than an average or below average driver will help the viewing audience. We won't have to listen to how great he is/was . I'd still rather hear it from Benny !!

I love the idea. I have always been impressed with Kyle's knowledge in all areas of the sport and his ability to clearly explain them from all points of view, and he is just another great personality and attitude. It just seems like he's a little out of place. Bill Weber, Wally Dallenbach and... Kyle Petty? Im in favor of it though.

My feelings, exactly.

Wally...? I can take him or leave him. He's knowledgeable, was successful in IMSA and Trans-Am and was doing OK until he went with Roush in The Keystone Ford. He comes from a highly successful racing family. His penchant to overstate his opinion reminds me of myself, and that really is scarey!
But I have NEVER been able to stomach "The Haircut" for any extended stretch of time. His dramatic delivery and his flagrant lack of NASCAR historical knowledge has the same affect on me as nails on a blackboard. Kyle won't be able to replace Benny, but he'll sure be a welcome addition to an otherwise ineffectual duo.

How bout this trio... Allen Bestwick, Kyle Petty, and Ned Jarrett? I would've have said DW, but he started gettin on my nerves near the end of their broadcast time during the season, and you all know how much I liked him.

Re: Kyle and the Future

I don't mind Kyle. I think his mind has been on other things instead of racing for a wile, so him moving into the booth is a good move.

Dustin...
Boogity, boogity...

Please go to this link and read the lyrics of the 1961 song by Barry Mann
Who Put The Bomp

Also a link to the 1960 "Pony Time" by Chubby Checker

Chubby Checker Lyrics: Pony Time Lyrics - HotLyrics.net

With these you can get all the Boogity, boogity you want without the snarkiness of DW.

Enjoy.

I've heard the first one hadn't heard the second. That will fill the void.
