Re: Stewart: Too Many Drivers Makes Chase A Waste

As much as i like NASCAR i really respect the previews racing eras, these past eras made a great job to make NASCAR as goood as they can whether we like it or not, i call my self a new to the sport but everytime i look at the past history i can see how better it was.

Re: Stewart: Too Many Drivers Makes Chase A Waste

Let me say, I'm a race fan first (but like stock car best) and I can't think of any other form of racing (top level) where you can tell what make of vehicle is running, except maybe the lower class of cars at your local tracks, road racing series and drag strips.
NASCAR Cup racing is better than it's ever been (as for racing), GN is better than Cup and the Craftmans Truck series is better than both Cup and Busch (as for racing), and I think local short tracks beat them all ( I do have 7 or 8 local tracks within an hour of me and most are closer.
JMHO.

Re: Stewart: Too Many Drivers Makes Chase A Waste

I think an old timer would be someone who followed nascar before nascar got into the car design business. when you ran a stock bodied racecar.
also drivers could really lean on each other with out fear of point deduction or fines.
at one time you didn't have to wait for the guy infront of you to bobble to get around him ,you could just use the old chrome horn .

in the old times a good driver could take an 8th place car a win, now a good drive will take a winnable car and run 8th to protect points

Let me tell you right now, in the era I'm talking about, from about 1936 to 1996, if you wanted to win you had to work to do it. It was back in a day were if you didn't have what it takes, you failed, and didn't whine until NA$CAR made the cars almost identical. If driver had a problem with his car, he'd fix it himself so it would be done right. Most drivers these days such as Kasey Kahne and Kyle Busch wouldnt even think about getting there hands near the engine or anything else. And when things aren't done right, they complain about it forever. And about the "stand emptying snoozer", if the stands were so empty wingkey, why have tracks grown from a place where a town can go to have a beer and watch a few hours of the sport he loves to huge, 100,000 seat stadiums? Why would Big Bill spend the money he didnt have to expand an empty racetrack? In those days, he actually needed the money to put food on the table, not to gain power. I guess what separates old from new school racing, or racing from NA$CAR is that the older genaration appreciates hard work instead of whining. If a guy worked hard enough to win by an entire lap, than by god he deserved it and the fans appreciated it. Fans and Fan$ are two completely different things.

That was actually a shot at those that cannot (do not?) see racing when there was a seemingly clear runaway by a driver. I say "seemingly" because it clearly is not over till the flag drops on someone.

I still find myself astounded by the number of people that will pack up and leave a race as soon as their favorate driver drops out or is no longer capable of finishing well. Not "knocking" these folks, just can't quite fully relate.

It looks more like message board rhetoric to me. It sounds good, but it's a little bit stretching of the facts. LOL

Re: Stewart: Too Many Drivers Makes Chase A Waste

Im starting to sense a little hostility. Not that there's a problem with a good ol' racin debate. I think that when all is said and done, the only thing that we will agree on is that there is definately a big gap between the 60s and 70s and today. And that was pretty obvious already. Lets have a drink.

Yeah, I know what you mean about sensing a little hostility. It's a sad that LSC9901 can be so hostile, especially being a mod. LOL

That's what happens when some young kid (Brian France) comes in and ruins the only bit of enjoyment I have left in my life. Being retired is tough enough, but when they start messing with my toys they've crossed the line.

Rhetoric, hostility .... that's not me. Opinionated .... maybe. i gotta be something.
