Dan Wheldon NASCAR Bound?

I know these rumors have been around for a while, but RotoWire.com is reporting that IRL driver Dan Wheldon has joined Target Chip Ganassi Racing for 2006, and that Ganassi might have promised Wheldon a shot to drive in the Nextel Cup series as soon as next season. Think there's any truth to these rumors, and if so, can Wheldon succeed in NASCAR?

Those rumors may be true, but I think it would be a fatal mistake to take someone without stock car experience, and throw him right into Cup. Look what happened to Scott Pruitt. He would qualify great, and within a few laps, we was put into the fence. These Cup guys do not seem to do well with "outsiders". Maybe put him in Busch or the Truck Series for a season or two to get his feet wet.

I don't think it's so much that the guys don't do well with outsiders, it's more of the fact that they go from an Indy car (very light) to a stock car (very heavy) and they just don't get used to that feeling. The stock car is a totally different animal then an Indy car. I know that somebody is going to bring up Tony Stewart - well he could hop in and do good. The key to that is that he's been driving all different series for years. These guys think they can go from one league to another without transition, and when they can't, they go back to what they do know. Well, if he does take a chance to switch, hopefully he will do good.

Steve Kinser comes to mind with that statement.
