Re: Dale Jarrett UPS Toyota

We will be lucky if we see any pics of Dales #44 during the race because the tv coverage of the race only shows the top 30 cars...

That is a sweet paint scheme for sure, the chrome wheels really make it. Speaking of chrome wheels, I always liked them and never understood why more teams dont use them. Supposedly they originally quit using them in the late 80's or early 90s, because the lead wheel weights were flying off the chrome. Today, I dont believe they use the same weights and am surprised that more teams dont have the chromies.

For whatever reason, a car that sticks in my mind with chome wheels, is Bobby Allisons #22 white/red Miller Chevy from around 1985. Maybe its because I have a diecast of it.

That is one cool car! I don't know why I never bought that one. I have his old Malibu Coke car!

Next time I see one, I'm buying it! Bobby was my fathers fave driver, him and Cale! An odd combo, but that is where his drivers as I was growing up!

Chrome is cool, as a lot of bikers say!

Hey Nevada,
I also heard that before. My husband said that the chroming process weakens the metal, therefore you can't detect cracks in the wheels. I believe these "chromies" are actual powder coated wheels.

Yeah, it is a sweet lookin ride. Too bad those wheels dont go as fast as they look

Seriously tho, I watched Jarrett at California Qualifying..........he never even got up to speed and just came back to the garage as if he knew he was already going to use his provisional......

Watching the Toyotas......especially that of Vickers, I would have to say that I dont think it is a speed problem.........especially from the TRD engines.....it appears to be car set-up and handling......the Toyotas just looked like the rear end was going to jump out to the wall at anytime....certainly seemed a problem for Waltrip

Chroming does not weaken the metal but it does not dissipate heat as well so the rims would git hotter and yes the chrome would hide any cracks. just thought you wanted to know.

Thanks for the heads up!! I misquoted my husband with the weakening of the metal aspect.
