| Smith Wants $12 million for NWS. Just One Problem... Bruton Smith has said he wants 12 million dollars at least for North Wilkesboro Speedway. Sounds good right? Bruton will sell the track, it will end up in the hands of an honest man (maybe) and maybe we'll see some form of racing return to the speedway. But there is a problem, tax rolls value the track at $4.8 million. Now, it is no question bruton is a greedy man (he has about ruined the way of life for nearly every Wilkes County resident). But why, if he loves his track so much, would he be so hesitant to sell it? All he is doing with it is letting it rot and trying to ignore the fact the people are angry about it and want answers (going back to the sign incident a few months ago). We may never get those answers, so lets go back to the Bruton's price tag. According to the Kelo v. The City of New London case, the Supreme Court ruled that a property could be seized by the government, and then transferred to a private owner for economic development (eminant domain). Wilkes County certainley has reason to try and use eminant domain to seize NWS, pay Smith and Bob Bahre the 4.83 million. Okay, so a battle for North Wilkesboro speedway ensues, and in all likelyhood, NWS is seized, bought buy, say, Junior Johnson? (he has shown interest before, but not willingto pay 12 mil). Therein lies another problem. Bruton is a sales tycoon. He has the money and lawyers to battle the county for as long as it takes. On the other side, the county does not (once again, because of Bruton). So it seems, to get racing of any kind back to NWS, someone will have to shell out 12 million dollars for it, but probably wouldnt be willing to pay 3 times what the track is worth without a fight. If anyone tries, whoever it is would likely lose the battel unless Donald Trumph has intent to fight Bruton for the track. Greed is an awful thing my freinds. |
