Re: WARNING! Possible NASCAR Tsunami

I'm confident that we've had the discussion before about provisionals but I love to add my "hot button" response also ... even though it is the same as most of you. I don't care if your name is Richard Petty ... if you can't qualify on speed alone then pack 'er up and head home. There just isn't any good reason why anyone should be given a free pass ever and for me that includes this top 35 thing also.

The only other word in front of or after Airdale would be "greatest". After all ... we were !

Thumbs up Re: WARNING! Possible NASCAR Tsunami

Well...i agree with Bob and i also think that they should let the winner of the NASCAR All Star Challange in the chase so it becomes like a wild card.

Welcome Hassan to goteamsgo. Jump right in and have some fun. Not a bad idea... the all-star race becomes a race for the wildcard... interestin, very interesting.

I think thats a pretty good idea too. As with many things, the All Star race has changed too much, but Id welcome that one.

Sorry folks but I do not agree. That is the same as a past champion freebie. If you can't do it within the (lousy) point system then you don't make it.

Hmmm...??? Having the Winston winner get a pass into the Playoffs? I basically like it except for one thing. It takes away from the concept of having teams battle for 26 weeks. Giving the Winston winner a free ticket would essentially pull a driver in the Playoffs based on his performance in once race only.

Other than that, I like it. It would add prestige to winning the Winston.

This is not an argument but just another point of view to consider. My man Kevin Lepage wins the Winston. He has done nothing in his career and now he gets a guarantee to finish in the top 10 of the series ?? I don't get the rationality behind it.

Re: WARNING! Possible NASCAR Tsunami

Actually, LSC and Bob have changed my thinking a bit... completely. If the driver that wins the all star race gets a free pass to the chase, he could technically sit out the rest of the season, and knowing most of todays drivers, he likely would.

Re: WARNING! Possible NASCAR Tsunami

Well the main idea is to give a chance to driverz who r not that competitive a chance to be, so they can have sumthin big to race for, imagine how teamz will battle through for the MIGHT be the last chance to compete for the title, winning this race is like grabbin a key to heaven so u can imagine how competitive the race will be

I see and understand your point. It certainly is something to be considered. However, speaking only for myself, I have a problem with the logic you point out above.

I don't like to see some team who hasn't performed an opportunity to compete equally against those teams who have performed at a high level.Don't get me wrong. I am for the "underdog" as much as the next guy. If fact, I rail to about anyone here and wherever about the evils of the dominating, high-rolling "mega-teams" like Roush, The Felon's; etc., etc. Every time a car from a two-car team wins I smile and any time a single-car team wins I'm estatic.

I just don't like the type of charity you describe above. You start "giving" away valued playoff spots, and soon teams begin expecting it as a matter of course. Then things will just slide downhill and racing quality will suffer greatly.

I'd rather see NASCAR not "give" playoff spots to "The less deserving," but rather to enforce some distinct rules which NASCAR had in the past which took away some of the advantage the "Mega-teams" have, and had the affect of making the playing field more level. Rather than "give" a playoff slot to some needy team I'd much rather see NASCAR make it so that "needy" team could compete more equally with the big teams.

I fear I will always adhere to the old adage: "Give a man a fish, and he'll expect another fish from you tomorrow. Teach a man how to fish and he'll never go hungry."

Hassan I invite you to look through our forum postings and see how many of us feel about racing for wins and points. Many of us here feel that there is too much emphasis on points versus winning. There is no way I could envision my self feeling good about giving a free pass to what needs to be fought for. The Winston is a non-points race . Other than the large $$ purse there is no real incentive for this race so now if you take an "All Star" race and give away the big prize you've made everyone elses effort fruitless.

Just my opinion.
