| Re: Car of Tomorrow In reponse to those who say go back to the old days... So let me see, if your driver has a Ford and mine has a Chevy and the Chevy has a ton better aero package at Daytona, you're ok with getting pummled on the track until Ford builds and markets a competitive car? I doubt it. The new car allows all manufacturers into the series. Some traditionalists may not like that but it's good for the sport in a lot of ways. First each manufacturer was beginning to come to point of frustration with nascar in recent years. There was talk of pulling out altogether. The COT reduces some of the dependence on the manufacturers. Consider what happens if both Ford and Dodge say, you know this car is't selling, we're frustrated with nascar, no more rule meeting sedans. we are building what sells. Then you're stuck with one make and a manufacturer who has lots of control. With the COT, Honda, BMW, Mercedes, KIA, heck even Jeep can field a car! Now maybe that isn't true right away but eventually it could be. More sponsorship money, less political power, more opportunities for more people to be involved! By the way don't you find it coincidental that Toyota will be entering the series the same time the COT is. Now why do you suppose that is? Someone here had a good point earlier. If you tuly want stock, go to your local track. This is big time and no one is going to field a team knowing their car has a tremendous disadvantage because of the shape or mechanical design. |

| Re: Car of Tomorrow I am probably wrong but wasn't there a point in time when the NASCAR body style did in fact coincide with showroom cars? When Chevrolet re-introduced the Monte Carlo I was under the impression that they did it because it was a better design for racing versus the Lumina. I'm sure there are many points of view on this subject of the COT but I think what most of us would like is real racing on an individual level versus the IROC style of racing. I want to see the teams attempt a little "Knaus"ing. I want NASCAR to catch them. If the COT becomes to much of a reality then the teams will have little if anything to do with the win/loss record. The system worked 50 years ago and it can still work today with the proper checks and balances. Whats next ... cloned drivers ??? |

You should try and watch the show Back in the Day, Monday nights on Speed. You will see real stock cars from the 70s racing Plymouth Roadrunners, Chevy Chevelles, Ford Torinos, Dodge Chargers, and Mercury Cyclones. Sometimes they have a race from the 60s with the big Pontiac Catalinas, Ford Galaxies, Chevy Impalas and Dodge Polaras. Those old races are really cool to watch. They used entirely stock factory sheetmetal, dash, bumpers, etc. They basically just caged them, tossed out the interior, and threw in big block horsepower. |

| Re: Car of Tomorrow Actually I knew I was correct. Just making a point that if they could revert back to the day when a stock car was a stock car, it might prove to be more interesting than the cookie cutter cars of today. I have to believe that there could be a happy medium somewhere. If it takes a new series to get back to the basics of racing then so be it. |

| Re: Car of Tomorrow I have to agree we need to get back to being able to tell cars apart. I think this would really help the manufacturers to boost sales. I am a chevy person I will not buy another ford and never a dodge. But if all the cars are the same what am I suppose to root for? I know that this may sound crazy but how many times do each of you brag on you own car company? Or joke with someone because they drive a different brand. If we went back to cars you could tell apart then we all win with better cars to drive. If chevy falls behind ford then chevy has to step it up to keep up. We all win that way. |

I would love for nascar to listen to the fans and make things more like they used to be, but it ain't gonna happen. |

| Re: Car of Tomorrow If you tuly want stock, go to your local track. I don't know about where you are my local track, evan the street class it atube chassis,alum/tin body, and alclhol motors.....not much stock going on there, but the racing is really good.

| Re: Car of Tomorrow Let me ask my question again because I am curious. If your driver was in a strictly stock car that was at a design or mechanical disadvantage, would you really watch with the same interest each week? Would you get excited about Daytona knowing they realisticly had no chance? Years ago parts failure helped to even things out but with all that is known today that simply would not be the case. Manufacturers are only going to build a Nascar fiendly car to a point. Why do you think the production version is FRONT wheel drive on some of today's racers? Going to race that at Daytona? I too like the concept and the simplicity but honestly do I want to know I cheer for the best driver out there and he likely won't have a shot to win because he drives a _______? Not me! |

| Re: Car of Tomorrow Reading the thread back in the day reminded me of another sober reality. Drivers would most often lap the field even by 10 laps! Is that really better then what we have today? I gues it was if you were a Petty fan!! |

| Re: Car of Tomorrow Don't you think with the money and research in racing today that a manufacturer would find a way for their car to at least compeditive? would Chevy and Dodge just sit back and watch as Ford ran laps around their cars or would they spend more money, and come up with a design that could win? |

| Re: Car of Tomorrow Ilike the late 80's early 90's, once in while you'd have run away car, but mostly you would have 5-10 on the lead lap with 3-5 for the win. remember atlanta 92.did know would win the championship ,alan, davey, bill, and someone else was in there too I loved that time periord. |

Yes. Until it didn't make sense financially. Chevy builds a new head, so Ford has to. One does this so the other has to also. But keep in mind they have to be available to the general public who wants low sticker price, gas mileage etc. How far will they go? And how would they do it? The same way they have before. A combination of we'll do this but that's all. Nascar if you want us in then you need to __________________. That's how we arrived where we are. |
