Re: Johnson's broken wrist

I agree with all of you that Jimmie was riding on "top" of the golf cart but we all do stupid things, trying to have fun. I'm not a Jimmie Johnson fan at all but he worked really hard and deserved the championship and now he's in the off season on his personnal time and deserves to have some fun. Let the man have what he deserves, PLEASE!!!!!

Re: Johnson's broken wrist

I'd love to be riding on the top of a golf cart right now. Temp here is about 15 degrees and we have 2 inches of snow. 5 days ago it was 62 and I actually was out playing golf.

I'm sure you're asking how does this relate to the thread ... JJ and I like golf but I'm not quite as stupid as he is.

At the age Jimmy is I thought myself bullit-proof and fearless. I have no feeling for Johnson personally, one way or the other, except I like his credentials. That being said, I have one word to describe a young guy who is still of an age where falling doesn't necessarily mean an automatic broken bone and does something physically dangerous and stupid: NORMAL.

Yes! Yes! Could not agree more. And for this "old timer", Mr. Johnson exhibited exactly how many saw and wanted our racers.

I had on occasion(s) the priviledge to be the "gatekeeper" at the long gone track in Trenton, NJ for the Indy and NASCAR (Grand National) events there. I alone had the key and the "walkie talkie" back to race officials to allow arriving drivers and their cars to cross the track to the infield. Among the many happenings at the gate (and there were many) I always recall the arrival of Al Unser Sr. one particular day. Bobby Unser arrived at the same time in a car just behind him. Seeing the car ahead of him waiting at the gate to be that of Rick Mears and his wife, he (Al) proceeded to "save his brakes" and use Mears' rear bumper as his means of stopping. The two exited their vehicle and then proceeded to wrestle around in a fun show of "road rage".

They - thought themselves bulletproof and fearless as they prepared to do something physically dangerous and therefore in the eyes of many stupid

These were the RACERs we wanted, living life in the manner we expected.

It's good to see we're on the same page.

To take it a step further... I've heard and read numerous statements about Jimmy having a vanilla personality and being about as much fun to hang around with as a mortician. Then, when he goes out and does something one would expect from a "wild & crazy" guy, he gets labeled as "Stupid?"

But then, I have to take myself to the woodshed on this one. I made a reference in this thread to Ron White's CD, "You Can't Fix Stupid" and Jimmy's actions. Hindsight is usually 20/20.

If you cant fix stupid, why not make the best of it? You can fix a broken wrist.

Re: Johnson's broken wrist

OK ... I admit ... STUPID may have generational meanings that actually differ from one generation to the next. In my younger years I did do one or two things that my father would not have been to happy about had he known. Now that I am my father they seem ..... well ......... stupid.

I apologize JJ. Have fun ... break a leg !!
