Re: Best NASCAR Race?

I love the "bump" that Jeff Gordon gave to Rusty Wallace to win Bristol a couple years ago! That was cool!

That's the one I remember the most because my dad was screaming "Git 'em!!! Git 'em!!!" Till this day I have no idea who he was rootin' for. I just remember thinking, "wow, this is tons more fun than the Indy 500!" Before Paul Tracey, that is. (I think he's the open wheeler who needs to go to Tony's anger management classes with him, but I'm not positive.) Too bad all this bumping stuff couldn't be settled off the track like in the good ol' days, not that I'm a violent person or anything.

One way to stop the bumpin' would be to allow you to install some 2 foot long spikes on your bumper. When someone tries to get your bumper you'd kiss your radiator good-bye !!!

I know ... never gonna happen.

I know some folks who could make that happen.... although... the spikes wouldn't be seen

Re: Best NASCAR Race?

It's gotta be Daytona 500 of 1998 when Earnhardt FINALLY won. Granted, under caution, but he won! Wasn't that the same race that the went from 17th, or something like that, to leading in a couple laps?

On the flipside, the most boring race is any race that Gordon takes the lead early on. I change the channel.

By the way, what the heck did they do to restrictor-plate racing? I don't "technically" understand, but I loved the constant change of lead and drafting. I still love Daytona and Talladega, but they don't seem to be as nail-biting as they used to be.

The race where Dale went from 18th to the lead in about 3 laps is the one I posted yesterday, Dale Sr's last win.

If you're talking about the large pack racing we have today as opposed to having a 5 or 6 car lead draft and 2 by 2 on back like in years past, I honestly cannot explain why or how it happened.

BBW,

Thanks for clarifying when Sr. blew through the field. My memory isn't what it used to be

I remember restrictor-plate racing when no one was part of a 5 or 6 car single-file pack pulling away. I remember when the entire race was two-by-two all the way. First and second were side by side. Someone would pull out of the draft, and either be pushed to the front or left out to dry. You could never predict who would win.

Then there was Sr., who could run by himself right up the middle.

I think you and I are talking about the same thing. Perhaps I'm not explaining myself right. The single-file racing at the front of the pack seems to be more frequent than in the past.
