If Gordon, Johnson, Stewart, pick a name, are involved in a good battle for position farther back in the pack, that's what I want to see. I could care less about the leader running around the track by himself. Honestly, it sounds pretty subjective to me unless somebody wants to sit and actually time how much air time each driver gets. I'll bet there would be some surprises. Bottom line, the networks will air who they think will get the ratings up.
I think it was in my "observations" post after the Brickyard 400 that I mentioned during one complete commercial to commercial period (maybe 7-10 minutes) the race leader was not mentioned nor shown, while JJ & JG received more coverage than any one else even though they were running in the mid-teens. they weren't racing .. just driving in circles - in fact I don't think they improved their position during that whole time. there were others who were racing, but JJ & JG captured the spotlight. obvious media bias.

Re: NASCAR Ratings Slip

It's because TV networks (and ESPN is the worst of the ones that carry NASCAR)

Have a meeting before the race at some point and instead of talking about what might happen - they get target fixation on 1 or 2 drivers and do backstories that will show during the race etc....problem is that driver might be running 25th all day but since he's "topic of the day" they stick with it.

I don't mind a story in the race - but for the love of god roll with the flow. I'm tired of hearing some drivers name 42,000 times and he never breaks the top 15 in the race. I want to hear about all the drivers, but don't act like it's driver Sonadso's day at the track and we should all know it.

Well, that totally stinks. I don't care about anybody running in a straight line way out front or any where else no matter who it is. I kind of only half pay attention to much of the race these days because of the commercials, but if that kind of bias is taking place it just plain stinks. I don't care what JJ or JG are doing unless it's something interesting and worth watching.
