| Re: NASCAR Ratings Slip I didn't read all posts in this Thread, so forgive me if I address what has already been addressed. How do we know ratings are down? Nielsen Media Research ratings? I'm not debating the fact that ratings are down, but based on what? Do any of you have a Nielsen in-home metering system or know anyone who does? Have you ever been approached by Nielsen? I guess that's beside the point ... Interesting comments by M24 ... Winston to Nextel. The Chase. I never thought of the move from Winston to Nextel as contributing to my recent less-than-enthusiastic following of Cup. But perhaps, that does have something to do with it. It does fit right in with the timing when I stopped planning my Sunday afternoons in front of the TV. "The Chase", without a doubt, has something to do with my late-season passion, or lack there of. TV coverage? Hasn't really mattered in the past, and didn't think much of it until I joined GTG. Yes, depending on the network, the "big boys" or the "media darlings" get most of the coverage. If a Cup race is on, I'm going to watch it regardless of the network that covers it. Lately, however, I do "plan" to watch something else during the race, and just check in from time to time. Really don't seem to miss much. Top 35? S*cks! Hate it! Wish it would just go away! But doesn't influence my decision whether or not to watch a race. What does influence my decision to watch a race is when the same driver(s) win. Yes, they are talented. Yes, they deserve the win. But when a driver and/or team dominate any sport, interest will wane except for those who admire the dominant figures.

| Re: NASCAR Ratings Slip The biggest thing that makes me change the channel, is when no matter where Johnson, Gordon or Jr is running, they show them more than the leader. Thats when I change the channel. |

A couple of weeks ago, Johnson and Gordon were running in the top 15 or so. Why the mention? I don't remember if it was the race where Jr. was leading for a while. Could have been. However, I do think Gordon and Johnson get far more honorable mentions than Jr. Yes, Jr. got tons of coverage a few weeks ago, but he was having trouble with his car. I may be biased. |

| Re: NASCAR Ratings Slip Quote: "Rating: which indicates a percentage of all households in the U.S. watched this broadcast" means what? "A percentage"? What percentage? "All households"? How many would that be? I know ... I'm showing my AR side. I guess I've done a bad thing here. I've started to question the integrity of the "ratings". That's another topic altogether. Thank you for the link. I did find it interesting. ![]() http://www.smileycentral.com/sig.jsp?pc=ZSzeb114&pp=ZN |

| Re: NASCAR Ratings Slip Is it possible that Johnson and Gordon are given more air time this year, as so many think they are, because Johnson is the current champion and Gordon is the points leader? And frankly, I don't care who's running up front. Many times the action is farther back. If Gordon, Johnson, Stewart, pick a name, are involved in a good battle for position farther back in the pack, that's what I want to see. I could care less about the leader running around the track by himself. Honestly, it sounds pretty subjective to me unless somebody wants to sit and actually time how much air time each driver gets. I'll bet there would be some surprises. Bottom line, the networks will air who they think will get the ratings up.

| Re: NASCAR Ratings Slip But if you're gonna show Johnson battling for 15th, why not show Kahne battling for 13th? What's really aggravating, is when they show Johnson, Gordon, or Jr, or whoever, in the back and you hear the announcer say, man we got a battle going up front, and the camera stays on the others. If we got a battle for the lead, I'd rather see that than the others in the back. |
