Re: NASCAR Ratings Slip

Eventually if they run the chase enough years someone will win it without winning a race. That's the day it will die.

That will be the day ratings and attendance really slip, and the chase will be totally revamped.

Me too. It has already cost my driver one championship and could cost him another this year if the luck don't stay with him.

We might get our wish this year! As it stands right now we have a driver in 10th, and eligble for the playoffs, who has no wins and only one top five finish this season!? That alone makes me want to pull for Clint Bowyer.

thats exactly what i meant sorry if i wasnt more clear.

im suggesting that the top 12 going into the chase(last 10 races)are the only ones eligable for the championship.as it is.

but the points stay the same if your 15th in points going into the chase and you get hot you win 7 races you can advance into the top 10 or 5 without being locked out.but you are not eligable for the championship.

the highest points finisher out of the eligable canidates wins the championship.

Re: NASCAR Ratings Slip

The only problem with that is, the 1st however many races of next year you may have 2 people in the same position. Say the 13th car makes it as far as 10th. When the season starts you have 2 drivers 10th in points.

nah, now I understand what harvick29 was saying...

basically, there's a snapshot at a particular point (just before the 10 to go race) and those in the top 12 postions are given a secret key. racing continues as normal thru the final 10 races and the highest placed driver at the end with a secret key gets to open the lockbox and take home the championship trophy, but everybody gets the points money appropriate for their actual finish..

problem with that scenario is the champ could wind up in, say, 5th place or some such while four of the non-12 would actually have more points than the champ. what a mockery of fair play that would be.

why not have a lottery at the beginning of the season and give 20 drivers secret keys, but don't tell them until after the last race so nobody knows whether they're eligible to win the championship or not!

unlikely because no one has ever won the championship from that far back in points.

unlikely? yes .. possible? yes. a lot of points can be gained (and lost) in 10 races!

but more importantly, I figured out what you were suggesting, right? I apologize for being so dense I couldn't see it the first time around...

Re: NASCAR Ratings Slip

Finally I get what you are trying to convey.

I have a more novel idea. 43 fastest cars race. Team with the most points after 36 races wins. He'll be known as the Champion.

Does anyone think it could work ???
