Re: A Must Read on our boy, Brian

Interesting article. DW thinks that France is some sort of visionary ???? Many leaders, world and corporate, have envisioned change only to destroy a nation or company. Brian France may not get that deep into trouble but his vision of NA$CAR and mine are two different visions. I believe you can satisfy corporate America and the fans to a much larger degree than what he is currently doing, but until he listens to those who have made the "SPORT" what it is he will be looking more to pleasing corporate $pon$or$ and the E$PN$ of the world. There is a difference between the sport and the business.

Just my opinion.

Does the phrase, "Consider the source." ring any bells. ANY statement made by ANYONE named Waltrip is automatically suspect in my book.

Ah yes. Brian's ability to have a "vision?" You may find the following paragraph from a 23Feb2004 Business Week article interesting:

"As with any big family, the Frances are not without internal tensions. Brian has heard whispers for years that his older sister and only sibling, Lesa France Kennedy, 42, the president of ISC, is the sharper exec. It doesn't help that Lesa graduated from Duke and Brian never got his degree from Central Florida. Despite the sibling rivalry, NASCAR insiders say both knew that appointing a woman to run male-dominated NASCAR was not going to happen. And France is wasting no time in making clear that the Era of Brian has begun."

It would appear that the main reason that we NASCAR fans are being subjected to the Rule of Brian is basically a plumbing issue.

I know my anology of comparing the selling one's principles and ethics for profit and gain, to the world's oldest profession is getting a bit stale, but damn! It seems to fit here!

My opinion is so close to yours that the difference isn't worth mentioning.

Thanks Bob. It's always a good feeling to be compared to someone you feel has a little on the ball. Especially when it comes right from the source. Now if we could only weed out all that is unworthy of being associated with NASCAR, life would be grand(er).

Oh no! Having things "unworthy" around is a good thing! If it were for that faction, what would we have to argue, gripe and complain about? What motive would we have to devise our grand plans for change?

It's like hiring someone to work for you that you just can't stand from day one; they are someone you can fire and feel no remorse whatsoever.<G>

Even though I openly detest the two village idiots, Rick Hendrick, Kenny Wallace and Bill Weber, it's nice to have them around so I can vent my spleen on ocassion, without a shred of guilt.

Re: A Must Read on our boy, Brian

“He was born on third base and thought he hit a triple.”

He thought he hit a triple. Thought. His grandfather hit the triple. France came in as a pinch runner and thought he was the star. Thought.

"France is unquestionably world-class"

Yes, a man who throws away everything his father and the true fans who know the sport gave to him out of greed, and beats its roots over the head as he tries to get rid of it is truly world class. A round of applause for France, the family man who just wants to stick to his roots and not let money get in the way of the great American tradition his family started.

"So my view is not the prevailing one"

No, but there is a reason for that. Neither is Brian France's view, the man whom you are praising and filling with even more of his own ego. The simple fact the you praise a man who's view is not the prevailing one in turn makes your view the same.

“His leadership and management style has [sic] breathed fresh air into NASCAR"

The air is fresh because he is the only one breathing it. He is the only one breathing it because the fans he was "leading" turned around, not liking where he was going.

Great job Monte Dutton. You have helped further explained what is wrong with the sport we love.

Another great post, BBW.

Yeah, I thought that the rest of you NASCAR fans, never to be confused with the NA$CAR fan, would appreciate Monte's offering.

I thought the sheer arrogance of Brian's writing Monte a message suggesting he report on sports other than NA$CAR was a telling statement. Obviously my man Monte wrote something that didn't give Brian his usual warm and fuzzy.

"Old and staid under his father's watch" Well, his father is the one that made me a 'RACIN' fan. Not to be confused with a NA$CAR fan. Brian has made superstars out of some people that probably don't deserve it. The sport has always had its 'Personalities' but now it seems that it's all about the 'Personalitiies' and not the 'RACIN'. I might as well be a wrestling fan. The next thing ya know, somebody's gonna tell me that it's fake too.

Bill Sr. and Bill Jr were racing promoters. I never met a track promoter who wasn't mercenary at heart and would screw the drivers in a nanosecond if he thought he could get by with it. But racing promoters knew the value of good, hard racing, attempted fair competition and could instill loyalty in their fans. Brian, IMNSVHO, has mastered the art of screwing the drivers, owners and the old-time fans, but he's got a way to go on the rest of his father's and grandfather's better instincts.

As far as the wrestling thing goes, I think that will be the ONLY way this new brand of NA$CAR will survive.

Often I joke about NA$CAR turning into the WWF and as much as I hate it you are probably right on the money as far as survival goes.

If ya get right down to it, NASCAR has already turned into the WWF, what with all the Jr caution flags that's been thrown the last several seasons. LOL
