| Re: Nbc I just wish that next year the go back to getting the races started by 1:00. Here it is going on 5:30 there is least another hour to go and I'm getting soooo bored. It screws up dinner. If I go fix something to eat I miss the commercials, oops, I mean the race. The drivers have been complaining for the last few races about trouble with the sun. If they went back to earlier start times the race would be over, I would have fixed my dinner and wouldn't be so grumpy. Just one more way NASCAR has figured out a way to screw up. |

| Re: Nbc To me, the biggest problem with NBC was (a) the excess of commercials and (b) Bill Weber. Whoever the genius was that made the decision to hire that know-nothing, pompous, mis-information-spewing imbecile should be locked in a room with DW and Larry Mac for some extended period. DW's idiotic "Boogity-boogity's," Larry Mac's "They is..." and "He are's...," and Weber's meaningless dramatic paragraph endings just kind of seem to fit together. Wally was definately lacking but at least he didn't spend half the race telling us about his past racing career (what there was of it). Benny has been a good boothman for a decade. I'll gladly cut him any amount of slack required this season because, somehow I just can't imagine lung cancer, chemotherapy and having a consistant TV persona as complimenting one another.

| Re: Nbc I would rather be Rosanne Barr's boy-toy, than spend any amount of time listening to either the two village idiots or Bill Weber. Does that explanation suffice? <g> |

| Re: Nbc I just watched some of the race and the booth's actions on TEVO, and caught something which I missed the first time around. My Main Man, Bill Weber (who has joined the ranks of the two village idiots as people who should never be allowed within 50 feet of any microphone) made one of his many gratuitous odes to Jimmy Johnson and the Family Hendrick. He expounded on how the late Ricky Hendrick was the driving force behind Jimmy's coming to Hendrick because he and Jimmy used to run late models together? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Jimmy start out in off-road competition in SoCal then graduate to late model for a couple of years/ When he left Calif I thought he ran ASA, and then got a small-time gig with NASCAR where he was spotted by Jeffie-Pooh as he was about to give it up and return to SoCal? Ricky, on the other hand, was your basic rich kid who played around with the common folk at a couple of local tracks, and when he indicated he wanted to play with the big boys, daddy gave him a ride. Then, when he almost killed himself, daddy plunked him with his magic twanger and "Presto!" Ricky was no longer a driver but an instant executive. The Beach Boy's refrain: "She'll have fun, fun, fun, Till her daddy takes her T-Bird away..." comes immediately to mind. IF my concept of the matter is correct, and I believe it is, this is just another example of Weber's ability to talk a lot and say absolutely nothing. To paraphase another old song: "Thank God and Greyhound, he's gone..." |

No slam against the late Ricky; if you have the chance and the family has money, do it! Racing's full of such stories. Grand Prix (now F1) had its Marques de Portago (Spanish aristocrat) Sports cars had its Lance Reventlow (was hier to the Revlon fortune) Indy Cars had its Ray Crawford (founder of Safeway Markets) NASCAR had Robby Moroso and Ricky Hendrick. (We know both of their stories) What irritates me down to my last good nerve is the repeated inability of a supposed professional announcer to get a fact straight! Yeah, I know; we all make mistakes here in this forum. But, we are not paid professionals (as far as I know, anyway), and I for one, hold people who are paid big money to know what they're saying, and elected officials to a much higher standard than I do myself or any of my friends. Weber is gone and hopefully he won't show up anywhere except maybe a gig on a 0200 info-mercial, or maybe doing commentary on a fishing show somewhere. |
