Knaus suspended 3 more races

On Tuesday, NASCAR announced that they would be suspending Jimmie Johnson's crew chief Chad Knaus for the next three races as further punishment for "making an illegal modification" to Johnson's car prior to the Daytona 500. He was also hit with a $25,000 fine for altering the rear window of the car during time trials. Punishment fit the crime?

Is it typical to adjust/finalize the penalty a few days after the intial NASCAR penalty?

Nascar does what ever they want, but I think they should have made the call right away instead of after the race 2 weeks later.

No, I don't recall Johnson losing any points. They only docked Labonte from my understanding. I guess the Aikman-Staubach team was using an illegal carburetor, and it cost Labonte 25 points.

I still can't believe that Stewart didn't get any punishment for his actions. There is something wrong in NASCAR. If Knaus gets 3 more races out after he has already served his punishment then why can't they do something to Stewart?

That was a good decision that nascar made. I am Hendrick Motorsports Fan. But I will agree with nascar. I think that is the most stupided thing that you could do in nascar. If you want to win a race. Don't cheat.Win the race the right way.

Welcome to GoteamsGo.com, drnascar48.

Do you think that the Johnson/Labonte penalites for prerace cheating were fair when you look at them together? It seems like they were pretty different penalties.

Hey, that's true, KENVOL. I totally missed that. Nothing for Stewart? At all? Odd... I guess there's still a chance it could be forthcoming, but at this point, I kind of doubt it.

If they did something to Stewart then they would also have to do the same to Kyle Busch for the same reason as Tony. Plus if you guys rewatch the 500 you see Johnson was also driving agressive twards Kurt Busch driving down on him forcing him below the yellow line (which should have been a penalty on Johnson) and DJ also rammed somebody twice until spinning out ( I think Dave Green ) but did not get penalized not even a word mentioned but all was shown on DJ's car cam. If all drivers were looked at the same and penalized the same then I would say allright, but there are alot of people jealous because Tony can out drive their favorite driver!

On the whole, tbalt, how much contact is required by any driver to warrant a penalty of any kind, or specifically, a loss of driver points? How much does a particular driver's history of previous incidents factor into things, as well? Are there preset standards, or does NASCAR handle each incident individually?

I don't think their history should be relevant. Anybody can change but still have a bad day. Don't judge from one race.
If you went by drivers history the Dale sr. and Darrel Waltrip would be worse and no would have respected them.
