Who & Why ??

Who has been the most positive influence for NASCAR this year and why ??? It need not be a driver. It can be anyone from the catch can man to the team owner.

Re: Who & Why ??

Even though he hasnt raced a single lap, although that may change this weekend, I would have to say Juan Pablo Montoya. Just the thought of a guy with his talent and background racing in Cup is phenomonal. If he qualifies fast enough to make the field for Homestead this weekend, he may be the only reason I watch the race. I tire of seeing the NBC cameras only following JJ, Jr. and Gordo around the track. I'm sure if Montoya makes the field, they will make special exceptions to their usual tunnel visioned broadcast.

He is the ONLY reason I am somewhat excited to watch next years racing.

Re: Who & Why ??

jp will race this weekend, If he isn't fast enough he'll be in the 42 with owner points.

for the orginal question I'd have to sat tony, not only because of his strong season ,but with hisd charity, I think he has donated a million dollars to victory junction more than once this year.

Don't get mad-only personal opinion. I have a friend who races in ARCA and thats all they talked about was Juan! His first race! For people thats been in ARCA for a year + that hardly get any air time-but someone coming in for only one race-I don't agree with that. He is a good racer-good career-just don't agree with Juan this Juan that thing-I have nothing personally against the driver at all.

I'll have to agree with Nevada; after all is said and done Montoya will have the biggest affect on NASCAR this season. However, it won't be for his racing performance, it'll be for the fact he could open the door for future defections buy high-profile drivers from several other racing venues.

IF we do see a number of high-rofile defections (BIG "IF" there but the Family France is praying so hard the sounds of beads are keeping them up at night), then the question is raised, how is it hurting the kids who have come to CUP the more traditional way; through CTS and Cup Lite? Will their careers suddenly come to a screeching halt because some well known INDY, F1 or F-INDY driver comes over and will command a lot more sponsor dollars than someone like a David Gilliland, Ashton Lewis Jr. or a Mark McFarland?

Oh Sexy one, I am not mad at all. In fact, I'm not really jumping on the JPM bandwagon. Just stating that I think his entrance into the world of Stock Car racing is the biggest thing to happen to the sport this year. I am very curious to see how he does, mainly because most roadracer types fall on their face in Cup. Remember Scott Pruitt? But nobody has ever came from F1, at least to my knowledge. It will be very interesting venture to say the least.

I can definately understand your feelings about the over exposure he has and will get. By this time next year, I will probably want to throw something at the TV the next time I hear his name. Unfortunately, the media thinks we need things shoved down our throat.

Re: Who & Why ??

Just think how bad the media frenzy would be if it were Danica instead of Juan.

I think Stremme and Sorenson should get tee-shirts designed for Montoya's grand entrance. Reed's could just simply say:

I'M HIS TEAM MATE!"

Stremme's could read:
I'M HIS OTHER TEAM MATE!"

I concur, Don.

I have a sinking feeling that next season, at the first, anyway, we'll have Montoya articles, interviews, etc., etc., up to our eyeballs. It'll be everybit as bad as Jeffie-Pooh was back in 1994 or Bill Elliott, back when he won the first Winston $Million.
