He is the ONLY reason I am somewhat excited to watch next years racing.
WOW
I totally agree with what you say, except he's the only reason I watch ARCA and/or Busch, good post Nevadastar.

He is a good racer-good career-just don't agree with Juan this Juan that thing-I have nothing personally against the driver at all.
The guy DID race F1, thats enough grounds to have the media all up in his grill.

Good point, Dupont.

Juan not only ran F1, he actually won there. Plus he's an Indy 500 winner. As yopu state, all that is reason enough for the media to be up his grill, and every other body oriface, for that matter.

Next season will be a media circus and IF he's successful relatively quickly, there will probably be a new TV show on ESPN; "Juan, 24/7."

Oh joy! I can't wait until I see a bunch of "VIVA LA RAZA" tee-shirts at a race.

So what he raced F1, I won't deny he is a good racer but I could name better drivers with more experience than Juan that don't get all the coverage they deserve.

Granted, the past doesn't always accurately reflect the future, but ..... most of the open wheel racers that have come to NASCAR have not been great successes. I have no feelings one way or another for him but I thin it's unfair to the middle of the pack drivers who have been in the series with minimal success. Media exposure for them could help their careers. The new comers with a name from another, totally different, series get all the media exposure. I question why ???

Would Dale Jarrett create as much media hype if he started driving in the F-1 series ?? I think not. Once again, it is all about the money.

I obviously agree wholy with your opening paragraph. My heart makes me say, "It stinks for the 'lesser drivers.'" ("Lesser" used advisedly) However my head makes me say, "Unfair, sure. But where is it written in stone that life was ever designed to be fair?"

The fact that J.P. is Hispanic, which in America's politically correct, culturally diverse world is an immediate plus goes without saying. In this isolated case I honestly think the money factor is important but actually only a sidebar.

I actually think (possibly naively?) that, in this case, J.P.'s hype comes from the fact that he is an honest-to-God world class driver who has attained major notority in US competition and then in a series to which NASCAR can only aspire to be an equal of. I think that if Dale Jarrett had the same creds, the press would be only a little less ga-ga over the defection. Unless Dale changed his name to Manolo Jarretto, Antonio Jarretti, or Vadimir Jarrettikov, then all bets would be off and the press would go into an orgy of glowing articles.

Just another view...
