| Re: Knaus Calling The Shots? I was just reading about this yesterday (I think) on this forum. This is nothing new. Been going on for years. NASCAR says that they had no idea this was going on. BS! I think it was Kyle who said that one of the suspended CCs said that he had a better view of what was going on from the stands. Short of putting the CC in NASCAR jail with no access to any type of communication, it'll never change. Even then, they'll resort to carrier pigeons!

| Re: Knaus Calling The Shots? The only thing they need to do is make all the penalties fare and equal. Gordon and Johnson had thier mishap with the fenders, 100 driver points and 6-race suspension of crew chief. Same with jr's chief. Except jr. got to qualify and practice. Then, with Vickers, they just told him to go home. Where is the consistency? |

Gordon and Johnson were penalized because the fender had been modified after NASCAR had issued pre-season warnings about messing with the body of the COT. their infraction was found in pre-qualifying inspection. they were DQ'd from qualifying, but being "Chosen" they used the Chosen provisional to get into the race. Jr. was penalized for having old, no longer legal parts previously used in testing on his COT. his infraction was found during post-qualifying inspection, having been passed in pre-qualifying. his qualifying run was DQ'd and since he was also Chosen, used that provisional to get into the race. Vickers was penalized for the left front corner of the car being too low. the infraction was found during post qualifying inspection; he had passed the pre-qualifying inspection. NASCAR inspectors said the infraction was probably cause by a part failure, though none were found during the time NASCAR allowed the team to investigate and fix the problem. his qualifying time was DQ'd and because he was not Chosen, he had no provisional with which to get into the race, so went home. In all cases, the qualifying times were not allowed. In the first 3 instances, the drivers were penalized, the owners were penalized, the crew chiefs were fined and suspended for 6 races, but because the drivers were in the top 35 in driver points, they were allowed to use their "Chosen" provisional to get into the race. In the last instance, no fines nor penalties were imposed, but because the driver was not in the top 35 in driver points and had no other provisional, he was not allowed into the race. in my opinion NASCAR was consistent in regards to these incidents. however, you might have a different opinion.
