Re: DEI to buy RYR

childress said "there will never be another black GM Goodwrench #3"
he has said that he would give jr. a ride with the #3 at anytime.

I don't see jr. running the #3, he is his own man and he is the #8, if he were to leave DEI, I see him taking #8 and Bud with him.

Re: DEI to buy RYR

a thought just popped in my mind, I'm surprised we haven't had a toyota bound team step up to buy those 2 top 35 point positions. and if DEI would be up to the highest bidder. I would think toyota would be at the top of the list.................and yes I think dale would be rolling over in his grave!

Re: DEI to buy RYR

The 3 is for Jr or another family Earnhardt to drive in the future. Jr. has already said he would like to drive the #3 before he retires.

Now there is another Earnhardt out there. Jeff who is the son of Kerry. Maybe the Earnhardt genes make it to him Kerry is an awesome mechanic but Kelly is still the better driver of the three. Too bad we never got to see her drive in Busch.

I miss the black #3 and the Intimidator too!!! No one like him.

I just read on nascar.com that the #3 number is totally retired from someone using the number.

Only as long as RCR owns the number.

Re: DEI to buy RYR

HOMESTEAD, Fla. -- Despite the fact that Dale Jarrett wiped out his No. 88 Ford in the first practice at Homestead on Friday, Robert Yates was in a pretty good mood.

Yates said on Friday that his two-car team will return intact in 2007 after he secured a sponsor for the No. 88 this week.
"I can tell you that we are good to go," Yates said, smiling.
The sponsor was not named, and Yates didn't give a timetable for a finding a driver to fill the seat, only saying that he had several candidates.
The news nearly completes a tumultuous year for Yates, who lost Jarrett and Elliott Sadler to other race teams in mid-season. Sadler immediately signed with Evernham Motorsports, leaving Jarrett to finish the season with Sadler's replacement, David Gilliland.
This weekend's Ford 400 at Homestead is the final race at RYR for Jarrett, who will take sponsor UPS with him to Michael Waltrip Racing in 2007.
Friday did not get off to a good start.
As practice came to a close, Jarrett hit the fence in Turn 2, forcing the team to go to a backup.
"He was trying to cut a really good lap and just got too deep into 1, but he was just going for it, going hard," Yates said.
Gilliland will drive Yates' No. 38 Ford in 2007, and Yates will also continue to field a full-time Busch car with Stephen Leicht as his driver.
"You first have to have what it takes to race and then we have some wonderful opportunities there, but that's not determined," Yates said. "I can tell you that we're wide open and that's what we're going do next season. We're in business so we're happy."
The news that Yates will continue to run his own operation comes one week after it was reported that Dale Earnhardt Inc. was interested in purchasing RYR.
On Wednesday, Richie Gilmore, vice president of motorsports for DEI, denied that his team ever sought to buy Yates' operation.
"Well, I've told a lot of our guys, stories definitely grow in the sport," Gilmore said. "I think it's one of them stories that grew. It grew legs for sure."
Robby Gordon attempted to purchase half of Yates' operation in August and merge it with his own operation. Yates considered his offer, but the planned merger never took place.
Gordon eventually finished a deal to switch his manufacturer affiliation from Chevrolet to Ford.

Re: DEI to buy RYR

I'm pretty happy to see Yates stay intact. The Yates family has done a good job within NASCAR and can hopefully continue. As for finding a driver I don't see that as a real large and looming issue. There are plenty of qualified drivers out there (Ward Burton). I'm confident that RYR will find someone suitable to take over the 88 (Ward Burton).

Two major questions left for now. Who will the sponsor be and will our own Quality88 be the 88 expert or will he follow Jarrett ? Either way hopefully it will be a winner (Ward Burton).

I'll still be followin DJ though it is bittersweet( Grumble, Toyota, Grumble ). However I will still keep tabs on RYR cause I have followed them since Davey raced for them. I will love it if they do the smart thing and Bring Ward in. That's what they need. I believe if they bring him in it will capitalize on the promise and performance Gilliland is showing. No clue on the sponsor yet, but I'll keep my eyes and ears open.

"Q" I am with you. I've long stated that I am a racing fan versus a driver/team fan but I have always liked RYR and what they have done for the sport. The days of Davey will always live !!! I'm sure he would have had his name on the trophy at least once. I appreciate those who follow a driver even though that is not my thing. I will say that Dale is a driver that I like to follow just because I have always seen him as a clean and hard driver. I always felt he was interested in the win for the team. I can't say that I am happy that he is going to the Yota's but I guess you have to do what is best for your future. I guess it goes without saying that nexy year will be interesting !!

Re: DEI to buy RYR

Jayski.com mentioned that Mars might be the sponsor on the 88. Don't they already sponsor the 38? There must be plenty of money in the candy business. Spread the wealth a little why don't ya.

I don't think Mars is... I know Combos, Pedigree Pet Foods, and of course M&M's are sponsors. I'd have to dig it up.

Re: DEI to buy RYR

Snickers, Twix, Pedigree or Whiskas I'd imagine. Though it could be Mars candybars. I would think the pet food brands would be the first choice since M&M's pretty much has the candy part covered.

Good analysis... and valid when deducing. Pedigree could be jumpin over to the 88... I'll keep my eyes and ears open.
