| Good point Actually, as much as we would like to know everything that goes on around us, the fact is we don't. Johnson doesn't HAVE to know what goes on specifically with his car to drive it. COULD he have known? Sure. Will WE ever know? Doubtful. JJ ran an awesome race, proved once again by his showing this week at #2, not even tweaking a car gives you an automatic win. The drivers still have to drive. As far as the Knauss penalty? Definitely not steep enough, especially for a repeated offense. But like I have said many times. NASCAR is a growing company with a wildly growing fan base. ANY publicity is GOOD publicity...well, almost.

| Re: Take Away Johnson's Daytona 500 Win? Penalty was for qualifing, Jimmie was in the race allready by last years owner points. The field was set by the gatorades which inspection was passed as well as the 500 which he passed. If Chad Knaus keeps it up the penalities should get more severe each time at which some point he would end up in the Pete Rose club, which I don't think ever come to that. By the way I am a huge Jimmie fan. Keep up the stellar drivering Jimmie. |

| Re: Take Away Johnson's Daytona 500 Win? Jimmie could well be on his way to the championship, but it IS a long season. A season in which anything and everything could happen. I agree, if Knauss doesn't walk a straighter line, he could certainly find himself in more hot water than a little suspension. We'll have to keep tuning in to see. |

| Re: Take Away Johnson's Daytona 500 Win? Actually, the LOWE'S team IS my favorite team. It hurts us as backers of that team if our team is simply known as the team that has to cheat to win. Jimmie Johnson is a great driver and doesn't need those kinds of things to tarnish what is fast becoming a stellar career. We're taught that it's only cheating if you get caught...he(Knauss) got caught. There SHOULD be tougher penalties for that, especially when there was NO need for him to modify anything outside the regs for Johnson. But I do think team 48 is going to be just fine. Despite the controversy, Johnson and team have raced two great races already. |

| Re: Take Away Johnson's Daytona 500 Win? I was thinking back to some of the cheating incidents I've heard and read about. One of the more creative was not long ago and done by Gordon's team I think. They re-created a radio unit used in the car but made out of an extremely heavy metal. They were able to move it in and out of the car (not easily) as needed...mainly for weigh in. It was eventually discovered. Lots of the stories though never surface until well afterward. I remember one about Kyle Petty / Felix Sabates team. Gary Nelson had built a car specifically for Rockingham. Once he became a Nascar inpector he warned them not to bring it to the track. The team put out the word that the car had been converted to a show car. Meanwhile they changed the serial numbers and a few tip offs, brought the car through Gary's inspection and raced it to a win. Bill Elliot won lots of superspeedway races in the 80's. The team said it was in part due to computer technology they had found. It was discovered much later that the car was actually an exact scaled down replica of the true size it was supposed to be. Cheating has been going on as long as the sport has been going on. Petty, Earnhardt, Elliot, Waltrip etc. have been caught at some time or other. Chad and Jimmie got caught. Somebody out there did not. I'm no fan of the 48 but it's time to move on. My only response to them, If you're going to cheat in qualifying, at least get the pole!. Maybe it's time to hire a new "Gary Nelson". When he started out as an inspector suddenly it seemed like eveyone was getting caught cheating. Why? Takes one to know one. Hey Chad we have a place for you in the big red truck! | Re: Take Away Johnson's Daytona 500 Win? Smaller Bill You know some will say those wins should be taken away but who's to say the second place guy wasn't doing the same thing? I was at a race at Charlotte a long time ago when Richard Petty beat DW at on a last lap sprint. They had just pitted under caution and Petty shot past DW on the backstretch like Jaws had put his car in reverse. It was so fast that even watching it live I had to wonder what happened to Waltrip. Later it was found Richard's crew put Right side tires on the left (or the other way around) AND his engine was a cubic inch too big. They let that win stand. When they did that I knew they'd never take away a win. So do all of the competitors. Why not remove the W? What happens when all of the photos, interviews etc. all have taken place and THEN the car is found to be illegal. How do you do the hat dance then? Too many sponsors, media etc. To take away a win would be a logistical nightmare and could even end up in litigation in the right circumstance. They could, however, take all points and money earned. Run whatcha brung boys! |

| Re: Take Away Johnson's Daytona 500 Win? Hello, candeljack, and welcome to GoTeamsGo! I think most of us are in agreement that there should be some kind of stricter penalties for repeat offenders. What kind of disciplinary system would you like to see in place for 1 time, 2 time, 3 time and so on offenders? |
