Driver of the Year

With the 2006 season closing in on the end who do you think, and why, will be the driver of the year/ Keep in mind that it doesn't have to be a chase driver. If you feel that there is a driver who has impacted the sport in a positive way you may want to chose him. No poll here, just your opinion.

I'm going to echo Monte Dutton and go with Tony.

Tony Stewart has singlehandedly turned the, "Chase for the Cup" (It hurts to even write those stupid words!) into, "Let's All Chase Tony."

He's making Brian France, and his silly Playoff, and NASCAR's waaaay outdated point system both look imbecilic. How can one vote against a guy like that?

I agree with Bob. Tony's the man. He's made everybody see just how rediculous the chase is.

Re: Driver of the Year

ummm... hmmmm...
i don't quite agree with "tony"
we shouldn't all think he's the greatest because he's taking risks and winning races just because he's winning races
oh no we should go with a driver like
ummm
i don't know
JEFF BURTON
oh no he didn't do anything great this year
just plain old Burton that can't finish in the top ten in points!
nope he'll never be good ever again!
COME ON! TONY STEWART? YEAH RIGHT!

Re: Driver of the Year

For me I think its going to be a toss between Tony and Jimmy Johnson.

Tony because if he would have been the 11th car in the chase ( yes I know but he is not in the chase ) he would be leading currently and he has led most laps again this year.

And for Jimmy he has been strong most of the year and has bounced back from the begining of the chase almost in 10th to now leading it.

Jeff Burton. The guy wasn't even considered a contender this year, and look where he is now.

I agree completely. Just because Tony won 3 races in the Chase and made it look redicilious dosen't mean he's the driver of the year.

Ricky Bobby

No one, absolutely no one did anything near what this driver did during 2006. And it was all caught on film as evidence. Some of it was even on TV. And as many seem inclined to believe, if it's on TV, it must be true. Please don't burst their bubble.

NO!!! If it's on the internet it must be true!, TV is sometimes fake but not often!

I'd have to say Tony or Jimmy, tony has been on a few tears this year and gets everyone wawhoo'd up with his fence climbing.
jimmy always seems to bounce back after problems.

Terry Labonte ??? , what did he do this year. he hasn't been competitive this year. don't get me wrong I like Terry, but he hasn't done anything other then retire IMHO.

Jimmie himself didn't cheat!
Jimmie Johnson is by far deserving of this championship
if he wins it. I believe it was said the best driver of the
year, not crewchief. Chad was cited for cheating and
paid his penalty, and during that time Jimmie still was
the one of the best drivers on the track

By sitting at home watching his cheating car win the Daytona 500? Wow, some penalty! That car should have been put back on the hauler and not allowed to race. But wait, thats an almighty Hendrick car, we can't do that!

If the car was fixed and passed inspection why shouldn't he be able to race? OMG no one but Hendricks have been caught cheating?
