I just don't see how anyone not in the chase is even considered. Unless you're playing devil's advocate I have no idea how you would vote for Bobby Labonte. He didn't win a race! I suppose we'll just have to disagree Quality88.

| Re: Driver of the Year I refuse to give the driver all the accolades. It doesnt matter who is behind the wheel, if the car is crap.......it will be a mid-packer at best. If it's on rails, most any good driver can point it towards the front. But, I will say it has been the 48 team that has been the overall car to beat in points racing most of this year. I won't say Yimmie Yohnson is the reason for this, because his crew chief puts him in a car to be in that position, and constantly makes changes to keep it up front. IN MY OPINION, he is no better driver than a fair amount of other guys out there..........he just happens to have a superior car a lot of the time and has had a ton of great luck this year. This season seems to be one of who wins the Cup with the least amount of bad luck.......looks like its the 48s turn. I pitted on a local IMCA Modified team for 10 years with two track championships, numerous main event wins and track records. One thing I distinctly remember our driver saying after smoking the field one night, "My grandmother could have won in that thing!".

| Re: Driver of the Year The communication between the driver and the crew chief is as important as having a good crew chief. The difference between the level of competition from the Cup cars and a local track is so big I don't think the last comment you made Nevadastars is all that relevant. That could also be "your" driver being modest. |

It's also about having the money to spend and make your "team" competitive. |

| Re: Driver of the Year No doubt money is a HUGE factor, and one reason I am somewhat tired of the same high-dollar teams at the top year after year. Plus the drivers in the mega-dollar teams being put on pedestals like they are gods or something. In my eyes, Johnson is no better driver than say, Sterling Marlin. He's just in a superior car. |
