Knowing Na$car he probably got a little too opinionated about how things are run, and they booted him. That happened to my favorite writer, Matt McLaughlin. Not sure if that happened to Marty, but its highly possible.

Somehow I don't see that being the case, Don. I remember his weekly appearances on the old "Pit Bull" TV show(which also had David Poole and Ben Blake, who both have about the same opinion of NA$CAR as did Matt). Marty always seemed to me as though he was the perfect NA$CAR toady and recited the standard NA$CAR position points each week. Besides, he was on the NASCAR-sponsored NASCAR.com; how many really objective pieces did you ever read there, anyway?

I'd say Marty'll show up on some racing blog (thatsracin.com for example) or writing syndicated pieces. The kid obviously had lots of talent.

they have been showing that he is on NBCSPORTS.COM now.

haven't been over there yet. I wonder how nascare will handle not being able to pull his chain now that he works for the hand that feeds nascar.....NBC....TV deal. hmmmmmmm! should be interesting to see what he comes up with!

Looks like Marty Smith is writing for ESPN.com right now. Doesn't look like he's one of their regular columnists, but could be a freelance writer.
