Talk about a COMEBACK (part2)

Last week Dupont4five started a thread about his golden boy and the day he had. So I decided to give someone else his just rewards......
Its time to salute Dale Jr. who some say is not the driver that his overwhelming popularity suggests. At Texas, the guy has the flu, plows the wall HARD, and still harnesses a 6th place finish. TALK ABOUT GREATNESS, WHAT AN AWESOME DRIVER Dale Earnhardt JR. is!!! Yes, I know its hard to believe, but Jeff Gordon is NOT the only driver to have successful comebacks from misfortunes in race.

Re: Talk about a COMEBACK (part2)

I gotta give Jr. props for his finish yesterday... I don't even like moving from one end of the house with the flu (not to mention nausea and heartburn), but to circle a track at high speeds? All that and moving up a place in the chase standings.

Re: Talk about a COMEBACK (part2)

I'm all in favor of giving the deserving driver his just tribute. I've been a Jr. fan from the beginning. He has only let me down when he would talk negatively about his crew, but it seems that he may have gotten that well deserved kick in the keester. Now he sings more praises for his crew.

Most drivers out there today deserve credit at one time or another. Unfortunately there are drivers out there that irriate us to no end. NO NAMES MENTIONED !!! You'd be surprised as to who I like and dislike. I have no one favorite but at the same time there are many I could do without.

Anyway I am still waiting for Jr. to put the entire package together and take home the trophy. Many claim he rides on the history of the family name but if you truly look at the stats and compare him to all other drivers you'll see he has earned his place in the standings. It is the media that makes and breaks drivers in the eyes of the fans. Is he the best ??? I think the stats so no he is not the best, but he is far better than many drivers who have been in the business much longer than him. If you are going to slam him or any other driver at least do it with facts and stats. Opinions are great but more often than not they are one sided.

Re: Talk about a COMEBACK (part2)

He did very good, I will not equal the flu crap into the equation because every driver has had the situation fall on their lap one time or another but to comeback like that was very good. I think Jr. got WAYYY to much exposure during the race though, and the fact that they interviewed him and not Jeff kinda pissed me off but what-ever. But Jeff did plow TWICE at Atlanta. I dont mind Jr., I just dont see what the hype is all about, he's no different then Kyle Petty in my eyes. He seems like a pretty cool guy and all but nothing out of this world.

That my friend is why I say that you need to compare stats. I, too, like Kyle Petty but he is no comparison to Jr., Jeff, Tony or many other statisticly good drivers. Media hype is what the media does ... not the driver. Obviously Jeff, Tony, kyle, Jr. or whoever is not going to pass up an opportunity to be on camera so they can say PEPSI, COKE, BUD, HOME DEPOT. Thats where the $$$ comes from

Jr did a great job. To hit the wall and come back and finish 6th, you have had a good day. Its pretty interesting, Jeff wrecks 2 times and finishes 6th, and Jr hits the wall and finishes 6th. Just shows their great talent.

Once again you must understand that there are some of us out here who don't really care about who sponsors what team. I'm one of those fans that watches or goes to the track to see the race. I'm not at all amused with cute ads and I'm not at all impressed when the drivers get up there and thank 15 different sponsors. So if I mentioned two of Tony's sponsors it was done by mere coincidence not because I favor one drivers sponsors over another.

It must be a generational thing. You must remember that there are some who remember the days when during an interview, there wasn't 15-20 seconds wasted on mentioning every logo sewn to the drivers uniform. It was simply ask a question; get an answer.
