IRT Johnson (4 tires) passing Stewart (2 tires); Welcome to the new, improved world of the NA$CAR Playoff, where "big-picture," points racing is more important than competition. Why take a chance of passing when you can easily coast and lose only 10 points by doing so? I subscribe to Junior Johnson's philosphy: "I always figgered that if you win races the championship'd take care of itself."

So how did the eye test work out Bob ?? I had a zero percent leak rate myself. I just do short frequent tests instead of a long one. |

| Re: Was Texas Boring? This was our 2nd trip to TMS and we had a great time. Big time luck they even got the race in. With all the rain in the area. Took stepson this time it just blew him away. I told him tv does them cars no justice and he agreed when they dropped green flag and they came out of turn two and blew by us in section 201 the look he give me was priceless. Boring? Not for us. Looking forward to next Nov. |

| Re: Was Texas Boring? The following are excerpts from Matt McLaughl,in's recap of Texas. This explains my feelings better than I ever could myself. (A)"The Key Moment—Well, there was one pass for the lead when Jamie McMurray stayed on the track to gain track position during the 8th caution period. It took Stewart an entire lap to pass McMurray (and Vickers). After that, Stewart was never headed, though Kasey Kahne and Jimmie Johnson tried in vain to keep him honest. Stewart’s pass on McMurray was the ONLY green flag pass for the lead during the entire race. In a Nutshell—See Tony run. Run, Tony, run. Yawn. Dramatic Moment—Well…um…let’s see. Waiting to see if it would rain again?" (B)What They’ll Be Talking About Around the Water Cooler This Week I’m normally not one to complain about my lot in life, but this deep into the season, I’ve earned my right to be cranky. If there’s one thing worse than watching a boring race, it’s trying to find something interesting to write about a boring race. A separate points system for the Chasers with points awarded 10 through 1 point according to how they finish no matter how far apart those finishing positions? Sure, why not? While they’re at it, how about separate TV broadcasts for those who aren’t into the Chase and just want to see race coverage and the newer fans who dig the Chase? This whole Chase thing makes Alice ’s ride down the rabbit-hole seem like an episode of the Brady Bunch. Every other winner of a Cup race at Texas has worn a white Stetson in victory lane. Tony Stewart got a black one. Man, that Eddie Gossage doesn’t miss a trick, does he? Any other old-timers wishing we were back at Rockingham this weekend?" (C)"What’s a more telling damning condemnation of the Chase? The fact Stewart has won three of the eight Chase races but isn’t in contention for the title or the fact that Johnson once again settled for second rather than mixing it up for the win? NASCAR® has proposed a tough new rule for next year that will heavily penalize any driver who throws something out of his car to draw a caution flag. The only item drivers will be allowed to toss out of their racers are plush-stuffed Dale Earnhardt Jr. dolls to remind race officials the 8 car is about to go a lap down and needs a caution. One of the stars of NBC’s little watched “Friday Night Lights” got the dubious honors of the “Wally’s World” ride this weekend marking the first time a star of that program was ever seen by more than a handful of people. For those who don’t watch the program, and apparently that’s most of you, the young lady in question plays a character whose boyfriend, the star quarterback of the high school team, got paralyzed on field. She’s now sleeping with his best friend. Sort of the way Brian France treats old time fans, no?" Lots of insight in all of the above. |

| Re: Was Texas Boring? I was there and it was boring....Listening to Jr on the scanner try to get something for his heartburn then his sick stomach was the highlight of the night. I was surrounded by orange and women saying "Go Tony Go" like he wasn't half the track ahead in his own zipcode. Sorry Tony Stewert fans.... Then I sat in traffic for two hours not moving an inch to try to make it home. Wow was that $254 worth it?!

The race was a bit on the boring side until the end when Martin gave them a bit of a run and all the crashes. Just for grins I did time a few of the actual racing segments. One of them was 7 minutes before another commercial. At one point, I'm guessing at about the 150-160 lap mark, there was a time frame of 2 minutes and 51 seconds between commercials. Just great. |

As far as commercials, it has your regular commercials, then when they go back to the announcers.......those clowns go on and on about some thing that has nothing to do with the race or racing. This is all happening while the race is on under green. I am so disappointed in the coverage on XM. It used to be the old MRN style with Eli Gold, but these other yahoos are nothing but chatterboxes saying nothing. |

| Re: Was Texas Boring? Thats what I thought too when I got it last year. All stations are commercial free, but the XM Nascar broadcast is a feed from a free radio network, which has commercials since it is also broadcast on regular radio waves. During the week I listen to classic races from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, where there are never any commercials. |
