| Re: Is the Championship Rigged? Well Gal, a lot of times I wonder about 'rigged' races or championships, especially when it comes to the 24, 48 and even the 8. But in Burtons case, I highly doubt it. It seems it would be Nextels worst nightmare have the Cingular car representing the sports best. ![]() As far as the pins go, I think it is a judgement call on Nascars part. Martinsville is the slowest on the circuit, so the hood was no real problem like it would be at a larger, faster track. They did say Nascar was keeping a close eye on his hood though.

Of course, this is the same NASCAR rule enforcement group run by that sage of all thing competitive, John Darby, who in an interview last week, said, (I swear I AM NOT making this up) " I knew there were emergency vehicles on the track but I gave the go ahead to wave the green flag because I didn't want to see the cars stack up and I knew they would slow down under the yellow." I repeat, when you see NASCAR and "Judgement" used together, revert to the Elmer Fudd Rule, "Be Awfraid, be vwery awfraid!"

| Re: Is the Championship Rigged? I have seen them throw the yellow on a restart like that so there;s not a pile up, I think once the cars are past a certin point on the back stretch it to late to call off the green, so they throw the yellow in stead. sometimes they predict that safty workers will be gone by the time the car take the green. I don't think nascar fixes anything, to many variables, but with out a doubt they do look the other way for certin cars. I don't think they want JJ tobe the next mark martin. how esle would you explain the 2 car getting suspension ,money and a point fine for a locked up shock that would be a hinder and not an advantage, while the 48 get no point fine for an out right aero enhancement modiflication. ........hhmmmmmmm. ???

| Re: Is the Championship Rigged? I heard this brought up last night and it would kind of make sense. Why wouldn't NA$CAR black flag the #31 immediately? After all, he is sponsored by Cingular, and NEXTEL pays NA$CAR a lot more money than Cingular does. I'd say that IF a fix were in, (and for all the *****ing I do about NA$CAR, rigging races has never been one of them) I'd think they'd find some "illegality" with the Cingular car each week. But, what do I know? |

| Re: Is the Championship Rigged? Rigged ... No. NA$CAR doesn't need to rig the outcome and couldn't do it anyway. When the top engine builders in the nation cannot keep an engine running how could anyone fix the series championship ? Sponsorship of the series will probably never be an issue. If fewer people saw tobacco as a health hazard Winston would still be at the helm. You can bet after a few more years Nextel will not be the major sponsor. The popularity of NA$CAR will always be there so finding big sponsorship dollars will always be just around the corner. The issue of Cingular over Nextel is really a non issue. Yes they are competing companies but what happens when Cheerios or Triple "A" wins the championship ??? It is a different sponsor and Nextel will live with it. Oncea3 fan said "to many variables" and that is quite true.

| Re: Is the Championship Rigged? Rigged... No to a certain extent. There are certain things that can't be predicted such as a blown tire, or an engine failure. However there are vertain other things that help to change some outcomes such as timely cautions for phantom debris that helps a specific driver/s. Or not taking points away for purposely cheating would be helping out a certain driver. I think it's alot about who Na$car wants to help the most.
