Well, it wasn't Tony Stewart or Dale Earnhardt Jr. who won the first of the races held this month at Daytona International Speedway. It was Stewart's rookie teammate, Denny Hamlin! Hamlin edged out Junior, who finished 2nd, and Steward, who was 3rd, to take the checkered flag. How about that!

I didn't watch it, but supposedly it was a race that involved a lot of bumping thanks to the restrictor plates. I guess Tony Stewart even blew up about it after the race, saying that he was afraid someone was going to get hurt next week in the 500. When the heck is NASCAR going finally do away with those things anyway?

Wow! Now there's something -- a rookie beating out the favorites. Heck, it's only the eighth Nextel Cup event he's started in, apparently. Frankly I thought DE Jr. did some great driving, and I guess Steward did too; but you gotta hand it to Hamlin, he won it fair and square. Wonder how he'll do in Daytona?
