| Martin intrigued by idea of drivers wearing white gloves MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Mark Martin suggested Friday at Martinsville Speedway that wearing a glove bright enough for drivers to see from behind it would help prevent accidents like the one he was in at Lowe's Motor Speedway last weekend. more ![]() |

| Re: Martin intrigued by idea of drivers wearing white gloves Since wrecks such as the one J.J. and Mark were involved in last week are, far and away, the exception rather than the rule, I'm for NASCAR staying out of it until a reoccuring problem exists. NASCAR never saw a problem that thjeir regulation had the potential of making it worse. (Can you say, R-E-S-T-R-I-C-T-O-R P-L-A-T-E, boys and girls? Fine. I knew you could.) The tracks would whiz and moan but a more effective solution, IF NASCAR really believes this is an actual problem, is to start the pit entrance in the middle of the back stretch. The fast cars are coming out of the turn up against the wall, leaving the inside of the back stretch virtually empty. White gloves??? Well, I guess they'd be visable to anyone sitting on the hood of the car. But riding behind a car, looking thru a HANS device, roll bars, roof flaps stoppers, and who know what else? It might work every so often, but I really don't see it as a solution to a possible problem. But, what do I know?

IRT Turn signals: Driver "A" is leading with Driver "B" closing fast, in a car with better tires. Driver "A" knows he's going to get passed on the inside off of turn 2...Presto, he hits his left turn signal and the car about to pass him checks up for fear he'll nail a tuning car. Naw. It ain't broke. Please NASCAR, don't try and fix it. |

It's just a piece of unneeded equipment, something else to go bad.I've had a couple of people tell me that there is also a technical problem with using a speedo but I've never understood that. It's always seemed to me that if we can put a man on the moon, and put 50K volumes of so-called music inside a chop the size of DW's brain, we should be able to figure out how to put a speedo in a race car, but what do I know? Ergo, I opt for the first reason; it's just not necessary. |

| Re: Martin intrigued by idea of drivers wearing white gloves Bob, I know about the tach and the rpm's depend on what gear your in right? But you left me hanging, I've heard of a speedo but only the one you wear, so please, tell me the rest of the story. |

IRT speedo; forgive me. Old motorcycle jargon that's residual with me. Besides, I was under the impression (old people get "under the impression" a lot) that speedo's were a thing of the past. I thought all the "really kewl"-for those of you who have an education, that's new-wave terminology for 'cool'-people wear thongs or go sans skivies? |
