Great article Bob. Ward is about as down-home Southern as it gets. I sorely miss him and others like him in Cup with this current generation of sanitized, politically correct, instant millionaires.

As it turned out I was fortunate that I knew Ward was going to be on Trackside last night and taped it because I wouldn't be home to watch. It was great to hear the fans chanting for Ward while whiney Jeff Gordon was on. And the best part was I could fast forward the whole 1/2 hour they wasted on Gordon to get to Ward!!

I didn't watch it but my guess would be that, to someone who doesn't especially appreciate Jeffie-Pooh, it probably seemed like half an hour.

Man, oh man, ward, did you hit a hot button with that one! Have you ever noticed how many of the same questions are asked by these idiot interviewers each and every race? Especially pre-race and during qualifying.

Q:"Tell me, [insert driver's name], how important is a win today?
Answer I'd love to see: "Ah gee, Bill. On a scale of one to ten? Seriously, you know wins ain't important. We just get out here on weekends and drive around to keep from cutting the grass at home."

Q: (To one of The Chosen -playoff drivers, who just qualifed around 15th)"You had a good run out there today; tell me about it."
Answer I'd love to see: "I floored it, turned left, straightened it out for a second, turned left again, straightened it out again and pulled in. Next question..."

Or, to one of the invisable people who aren't in the playoff but finished in the top ten for the 1st or 2nd time:

Say what you want about Tony Stewart but the year he won his first championship he made it pretty plain that he thought the media, as a group, were as desirable as telemarketers and crack whores. There are a number of things I believe Tony's observations are waaay off base on, but I think he had that one nailed.

Media with dumb and/or redundant questions... Aggggggghhhhhhh!!!!!!!
