| Re: 2007 UPS Camry Same cars different decals.... if those rednecks in NC had access to multi-port fuel injection engines with turbos, as opposed to a big bore engines with super-sized carbs, would they have turned them down....? I understand its a 'sacred sport'.... but dont ya just want to stuff those 'foreign' upstarts with their 'wizzing engines' and no room to swing a cat in the back seat |

i think you underestimate the "rednecks in NC" and the "foreign upstarts" Tony Stewart, John Andretti and Robby Gordon all raced in the Indy 500 but none of them would give up NASCAR for CART..........too much money in NASCAR and American fame to be had as for the 'foreign' drivers....they have had great success in NASCAR and American racing Mario Andretti won the Daytona 500 and Nigel Mansell ? I think the biggest problem people have with Toyota entering Cup, is fear. Look what they are doing in the truck series. If it wasnt for Martins Ford, they would be totally dominating that series. People are afraid they are going to do the same in Cup. Hopefully that doesnt happen. Of course you also have a lot guys that have the "Remember Pearl Harbor" mentality, yet they have no problem buying a Sony television made in Japan. I often wone

| Re: 2007 UPS Camry As it has in the past this subject always brings out a lot of good information and many opposing views. I own a foreign car ... actually two, but I am not in favor of the foreign cars racing in NASCAR. I'm not quite old enough to be a Pearl Harbor person, so we can rule that one out. In the military I spent a couple of years in Japan. Had a wonderful time. Some of it I can actually remember. Saw many wonderful sites, bought the cameras, stereo and whatever else. I'm just not in favor of foreign cars in NASCAR. That brings up the argument about how Chrysler is now a German owned vehicle. This may be true but the company originated in the US. Many cars are also made in Canada today (at least for my area), but they are still an American product ... just as Chrysler is. Like others who respond to this thread I have my opinions and no matter what you say it probably will not change. Toyota may be having success in the truck series but I'm willing to bet my Indian Head penny that in the very beginning, at least, they will not fair well. This isn't a hope but a realistic look at the racing community. They will not be drawing the best crew members right away so there will be a lack of knowledge which will obviously reduce their chances. Look at the drivers. Michael Waltrip ?? Withour DEI in his life he would have always been a 35th place driver. As much as I like Dale Jarrett he really is an aging driver with few chances to win. Jeremy Mayfield, Todd Bodine, Mike Skinner ????? Toyota has a rough road ahead of them. The future could change but there is no championship next year. That's my opinion. |

| Re: 2007 UPS Camry I believe you all know my feelings on this one. They just ain't stock cars; they're NASCARmobiles which has as much resemblence to a car we can buy as Rosie O'Donnell has to Jessica Simpson. The engines aren't even made in the mfg's factory; they are fabricated by an outside jobber to mfg's specs, as agreed to by NA$CAR. Take one of the NA$CARmobile bodies, paint it green, put a yellow emblem on the hood and call it a John Deere and it'd have as much relavence as calling it a Toyota, Daimler-Dodge, Chevie or Ford. Besides, NASCAR already has set the precedence. They have already allowed multiple foreign cars to compete (Aston Martin, Jaguar, VW, to name three) and a Jag actually won a race at Linden New Jersey. (Refer to an old trivia thread of mine). My feeling on Toyota's name in NA$CAR: As Pink Floyd so eloquently sang: "All in all, Another brick in the wall."
