Invisible Driver

It's now lap 280 and, other than one shot of the car leaving the pits, has anyone seen last week's winner, Brian Vickers car, or has anyone even heard him mentioned during the race?

Strange... He had mechanical problems in the World 600 and finished 37th, but he had a 12th in this race last year. Now, this race he's suddenly among the missing?

I bet GMAC, or whoever is his sponsor this week is really happy about the lack of competitiveness and coverage.

Na$car probably didn't want Vickers even mentioned unless he was up front or near JJ or Jr alot.

That was basically my thought. They did show him once and mention him twice when he hit the top ten and they couldn't avoid it.

In the post race they interviewed Harvick and Kenseth, both out of the top ten finishers, but the only mention Raines and Nemechek got was by Benny. No face time on camera at all.

This darn playoff thing has made all but the drivers in the playoff invisible!

Re: Invisible Driver

Vickers had a top 10 run too. I guess Mr. France is losing money if they mention a certain driver like Vickers running in the top 10.

Re: Invisible Driver

well it's NBC's fault not the "playoff things"
if they had a longer post race show, it wouldn't be a problem!

Re: Invisible Driver

I don't want to go on a rant here but...

I've waited a week now and...Virtualy nothing has been said here, or in any non-NA$CAR-biased reporting I've seen about:

(a) Not one but two, count 'em; 1-2, Petty cars finished in the top ten! I'm not sure when the last time that happened was, I think around 199-God-Knows-When, but I sure think it is notable now. It lloks as though Todd Parrott laid the groundwork and Billy Wilburn, Rusty's old CC stepped in where Todd left off.

But, since neither Bobby or Kyle are in the playoffs, and their last names aren't Gordon, Johnson, Earnhardt or Harvick, apparently no one cares.

(b) As much as I dislike him, a massive tip of the Tanner hat goes to Jeff Green. After a season of seeing little but a lot of cars passing him, a second top ten finish in three weeks is something to crow about. Harold Holly is one of the top five CC's in the garage, IMNSVHO, (Cal Wells should have his Tide sponsorship-losing butt kicked for ever letting Harold go) and he and Jeff Green have a good history together. This might be a turnaround for Haas?

But did we hear about it? Nope. Green isn't one of The Chosen.

For what it's worth, the ONLY time I heard any of the above mentioned this week was a statement made by Benny in the post race segment of Sunday's race and Wednesday night on PRN's Pit Reporteers radio program. As for the rest of the media? Labonte, Petty and Green are just plain invisable.

NA$CAR's Playoff system...As Bloom Country's Bill the Cat would so eloquently put it, "Phhhhhggggggggffffffffff!!!"

Re: Invisible Driver

I think they have plenty of time to talk about all the drivers, not just the chasers... ok, so they concentrate on the chasers more, I'm fine with that... but still, let us know what's going on with the rest of the field too.

I appreciate bob's input , maybe more than most...impressive, informative, insightful and interesting. For those that can't get with it, maybe they are not real race fans or are too myoptic to appreciate the grander view of the race game. Thinkin' bob should call these "not often enough" rants...
"Tanner's Teriffic Tyrades" ...

Sorry I did not get a chance to answer your PM, Bob, was on vacation and under the weather...still plan to get back to ya...

Sorry if anybody misunderstood me. I learn something every time Bob posts. He is a veritable encyclopedia on not just racing, but it seems like just about everything. I'm not being sarcastic. I have the utmost respect for Mr. Tanner. As for being a "Real race fan" (Whatever that is), I'm probably not.

Spot on Bob I agree 100%, Coverage of non chase racers is non existant. I'm not even sure if Kenny Shrader raced on Sunday
