| Re: UPSET over ESPN You know what... I'm glad NBC's time is comin to an end... that was one of the more pi$$ poor covered races they had. Don't get me started on the commercials... The end though... They cut away from Jr and Kenseth racin to the end. They barely make it back in time to watch them cross the finish line. IDIOTS!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]() http://www.smileycentral.com/sig.jsp...p=ZSYYYYYYYYGB

Re: UPSET over ESPN Well Maybe ESPN "used" to have great coverage, but in my opinion the key word here is "USED" to! All of my friends, and myself were so disappointed yesterday that ESPN actually almost ruined a great race for us! They put the commercials in at the best possible moments of the race, actually played long clips of racers past lives at crucial moments...ummm lets see, shouldnt that be part of the pre-race show? When the race is on I WANT TO WATCH THE RACE! It would be nice to be able to hear the "in car convos" but...the announcer's chose to SPEAK OVER THEM so we could not hear a word that the driver's were saying! They might as well take out the speakers lol AND SAVE ALL THAT MONEY! AND.... as if they did not have enough basketball on already, they had to run the scores all day long at the bottom, I do realize that they have to have ads or we would not see the races, but can we please see at least see 5 laps before you do it? They are so bad at placement of them! A better time? well how bout throwing a bunch in when they have a cuation...Due to ads the most laps they showed at one time were 3 or 4! That is just not right! My gosh just give us 10 laps and than do more ads at once! lol Announcers? Well They sounded like a bunch of old clowns (except for Rusty) and all I can do is be so greatful that fox will be on today! We will not look forward to ESPN'S coverage for the next 8 years! Hopefully someone can show them what we need and want! Well anyways, now that I got that off my chest, maybe ESPN can watch fox and learn how to get it right! yes yes I know some like it tea and some like coffee and you are all entitled to your opinions but give me fox anyday lol! Good luck to our drivers, (especially JR. SMOKE and 9 )may they all have a great and safe season! Thank you for listening

Re: UPSET over ESPN Hi Huntress 3068 and welcome to GTG. Never fear opinions are always welcomed here. If nothing else they make for great discussion. If you have the opportunity check out some of our older threads on the state of announcers as many of the members here see it. I think you hit the nail on the head as far as the amount of ads and when they seem to occur. It's all about money. The race is secondary to those running the network. It seems fair to say that they find the least able people to do the announcing and must also have some highly educated marketing folks to figure out when we least want to see an ad. Hope you can deal with all of this for at least the next 8 years !!!

Re: UPSET over ESPN Thank you for reply, and yes you also hit the nail on the head! All we can do now is enjoy our in person races, and well, as for the televised, enjoy the 10 minutes of racing, and read the forum for the other 3 hours and 50 minutes lol. Enjoy the race today!

Re: UPSET over ESPN When the race is on I WANT TO WATCH THE RACE! I totally blew a gasket about 5 minutes into the race. If I'd watched for two more minutes I think the top of my head would have blown right off and smacked the ceiling. No small feet since our ceiling is 22 feet high. I recorded the rest of the race then fast forwarded through the commercials. TV, NASCAR, owners, sponsers - they all allow the almighty dollar to rule. I get making a living, but come on. Racing is being destroyed! That's one of the reasons I so strongly support our local short tracks on Saturday nights instead of watching NASCAR. No commercials, great hot dogs, good conversation during rain delays. It's pretty sad when I'd rather sit in the rain hoping for a restart than watch the "big" race at home. Good thing there's DVR and TIVO. Commercial's look better going really, really fast!

Re: UPSET over ESPN Did you guys catch one of the race shows on Speed this week with John Force? It was great because Jimmy Johnson was on at the same time and they barely spoke to him. They spent almost the whole time letting Force talk and it was a nice change. Also there was another show on ESPN2 with Rusty Wallace as a host. There was a co-host with him who's name I didn't catch and I swear the guy was practically drooling over Rusty and showing clips of his racing past. I wonder how much Rusty had to pay this guy to fawn all over him. It was freaky.

Re: UPSET over ESPN Too many commercial breaks, questionable coverage personnel, short "film features" (not sure what to call them), --- Agree. Coverage with ESPN leaves something to be desired. What really put the knot in the (my) shorts was that even when they were covering the race (video), they seemed repeatedly to be focused on where the real story/action WAS NOT. Seems like those in the video control room, the ones with all of the monitors for each/all of the cameras covering the race, do not know enough about the sport to select the right feed to cut to. Believe me, you can see change in suspension travel as a run wears on, you can see and hear a change in where a driver feathers or mashes, you can see the change in the distance up out of the turns before the push is out (the car looks like it got a shot of nitrous when the driver can finally fully straighten the wheel) -- but it does not seem the crew in the control room have a clue. Bad enough all of the gab and commercial time. Be really nice if we could see the right thing when seeing anything at all. Grrrr ----
