I think we're getting only the tip of this story and there is more to it. My personal idea is that Mark is laying the groundwork to become either a partner, or an outright team owner when, in a couple years, NASCAR franchises its teams. I believe that he is doing this in order to ensure that when Matt finally comes of age, he can be in a car wholy under the control of his dad. I believe that it may turn out that Mark's "strange" move is part of a long range plan. But, I could easily be wrong...
