Shell/Pennzoil to the 29 next year

While I was watching 'dega qualifying, Kevin Harvick said that Shell/Pennzoil will be the primary sponsor for the 29 team next year.
How wierd is that? I wonder if their primary colors will be yellow. The visual memories of Dale Earnhardt are all but gone from that team.

You must not remember the Cartoon Network car that Gary Bechtel fielded for Steve Grissom, back in the mid-90's? That one, and the chartruse #25 Fruit car that Vickers drives every so often, are the standards for "Fugly," or they are in my somewhat humble opinion anyway.

Actually, the Cartoon Network car was driven by several drivers, including Jeff Green and Lake Speed. I have the white one in diecast driven in '97 Monte Carlo by Green.....

Later on Lake Speed drove the UGLY Taurus version.....

Speaking of ugly, some thought the Peter Max special paint job on Earnhardts "The Winston" car was over the top......

Yep. Steve was the first driver and was doing well, with Buddy Parrott as Crew Chief. I want to say he was in the top 20 after eight or nine races, then Parrott left and things went to Hell in a hand basket, as I remember. It was this team that drove home to me the importance of a crew chief in NASCARLand.

I had completely forgotten that lake drove for Bechtel.

Yeah. That one reminds me of a night long ago when, after twenty-one marguaritas I decided eating a couple of cotton candies would be just the thing to do? After my stomach turned a couple of flip-flops, what finally resided in the kingdom of the porcelain God kind of remionds me of the above paint job. <shiver!>

Hey, look on the bright side. At least Andy Walhol never had a paint scheme in NASCAR. And thank Heavens that Salvador Dali or Heironymus Bosch were both gone by the era of the special paint scheme!

I think Robert Pressley drove it too, albeit for a little bit, but from what I can remember it might have been before Steve Grissom.
